You need to get in your trailer with your nose and find that smell and trace it down. Nobody here can find it for you, sure we can guess, but why waste the time. Time to get down and get dirty.
You saved money by buying used, some times this happens, boo-hoo.
It is called buyer beware. If you have a leak it will have to come out somewhere, get to looking under the trailer, seek and ye will find. It won't help find the smell by getting mad, put your hours in and "git er done".

Or go buy a new trailer. Like the great man once said: Life is tough, but it is even tougher if you are stupid.

I posted the other day about a bad smell coming from the front storage and the large side storage from a used 5th wheel we just purchased. We have not gotten a chance to clean those again, I have been working on cleaning the inside. My husband has had the doors open to the storage areas. This morning when I went out there, the smell was very mild. I was working on cleaning the inside, running the water, The smell is so bad right now, I can smell it as soon as I come out of the house, I can even smell it in the back yard. Do you think I have a leek somewhere in the gray tank? I am so made right now!!!! I'm thinking these people know that this was a problem.

You report you have a "bad smell coming from the front storage and the large side storage". Are the propane tanks anywhere near where the odor is coming from? The odorant used in propane is very strong & nasty smelling. You could possibly have a leaking propane tank valve or bad regulator.

I had a similar problem with a TT that had the propane tanks inside a front storage compartment. The stink even got into the front portion of the TT interior. Replaced the propane regulator and odor went away.

Good luck.

I had a leak in my grey tank.It was on top of the tank where the drain line goes into the tank.A puddle of grey water would form on the top of the tank when it was full, eventually finding it's way into the belly pan low point where it went out and onto the ground.
I am wondering if you might have grey water(hopefully not black water!) setting on top of the tank where it will continue to smell up the neighborhood till it is cleaned off.

I think we have found it!!!! When opening the battery compartment doors the smell was so bad you had to step back. Both caps on one of the battiers were off. When we take these out, what should we clean this with?

Hi,

The batteries are toast. Neutralize the spills with baking soda dissolved in water. Wear wool pants. Replace the batteries.

Find out what converter you have and post the make and model in a thread on rvnet. It may be wise to consider replacing it, too.

When you run the water, does the odor disappear when you run cold side only? Then appear when you turn on the hot side? If so, you will need to sanitize the water heater. I had a situation some years ago with a TT I purchased. The dealer had the unit set to go, water primed and all when I took delivery. New to a TT, we took it out about a month later, hooked up the water supply, and it smelled like sewer water. I thought the campground had bad water. Nope, the aroma was from my water heater. Hope this helps.

I am sorry to hear of this problem with your new trailer.

If all of the above does not fix the problem, then I would assume that someone may have done something to your RV.

An old Maine trick was to place a fresh oyster or clam inside of an electrical outlet or small area behind a wall of someone you did not favor. It would be fine for a few days and then as the clam started to decompose, the resultant smell would make the home uninhabitable.

I truly hope this has not happened to you, but as you have looked everywhere, that is the only thing I could think of.

I hope I am wrong and no, I have never done this to another!

Post Script : If you have a dog, let them lead you to the smell, and if you don't, borrow one of your neighbors dogs.

Best of luck...............Rob

The smell is more on the outside of the trailer. I NEVER TAKE ADVANGE OF ANYONE,and it really hurts when someone does it to me. I need to find out where this is coming from it needs to be fixed.

If you didn't smell it when you bought it, then it likely is something that has happened afterward. I can't imagine if the smell is like you say that you wouldn't have smelled it during your walkaround. If the smell got a tad better than worse as you say, that moreso suggests a small animal getting trapped in storage somewhere and is decaying.

This probably isn't her issue but once the entire TT of mine filled with the smell of propane. IT was so strong and i couldn't figure out where it was coming from as both tanks were off. Got to digging way inside the storage and realized that a coleman propane powered torch that was packed away had gotten something wedged on the on button and was leaking out. I always take off the tank when storing, but my son helped us pack up that day and he didn't think about removing it.

dbbls, I don't think that it's an animal, the smell was very mild almost gone until I ran the water.
SWD, To me it smells like gray water, and that would make sense, since it was worst when I was running the water inside to clean. The funny thing is that I smell it the most in the storage unit under the pin and the large one next to it, but there is no water spots anywhere.

If it's a foul "grey water smell", check for a bad "cheater vent" which is a vent normally installed under a sink to provide a vent where they can't run a vent pipe to the roof. We had to replace ours when it went bad and stunk up the trailer. You can pick them up at Lowes for about 6 bucks. Easy fix if that's your problem.
