Hi,
total newbie question here. we're on our way to pick up our new
trailer, an arctic fox 25P. this trailer is about 27 ft and
our GMC is about 19 so we're 46 ft long total. now I see in some
campgrounds in washington and oregon that max length for an RV
is 40 ft. is this total length or is this the trailer length?
thanks

Strickly trailer length....for the most part the truck doesn't stay hooked up to the trailer.....now if you had a 40' motorhome and pull a 20' trailer....problem

We camp a lot in Washington and Oregon...generally that means the size of the site/pad. Longer than 40 ft. and you will be sticking out some into the access road.

But, once unhooked, you can park your tow vehicle at a slight angle and fit into the site....or you can park at the many visitor parking spaces that are adjacent to most sites in almost all the State Campgrounds.

That can depend. Here in NC they give you the total site length and width measurements. Problem is some of these sites are narrow in the front and wide in the back. Some but not all narrow in front sites have a spot to park the TV next to the TT but I have seen some that are narrow and nowhere to put the TV if you are too long. So again, it depends and it may be best to call to find out before going.

Probably depends on how the information is listed. If it lists the "driveway length" or "site length" then it probably includes both the trailer and the tow vehicle. If it says RV length, it's usually just the trailer. In MOST cases the length is not so much a limit as a recommendation (there are exceptions to this) and as long as you fit you're fine. I have been removed from a campsite that was PLENTY large enough for my 58 foot combination because it was impossible to get it where it was already set up but it's rare.

Mostly Wash and Oregon here in my experience it is what will fit on the pad--not total length with your TV. I've only had one time where I couldn't either park beside my trailer or at an angle and had to park down in a parking lot.

Same as the others... I've camped in many of Oregon's state parks and you will be fine. In most cases once you unhook the trailer you just angle park your truck if space if tight... in most cases there's PLENTY of room.

I camp at a lot of state parks- I agree its usually the pad. I often either hang my trailer off the back of the pad a bit or angle park. Some sites are wide enough that I can park my tow vehicle sideways across the driveway (I tow with a Tahoe)

Generally the site length is for the camping unit sans vehicle. Your 25P will fit into the vast majority of WA State Park RV designated sites. Also keep in mind that rear end of the trailer can extend a little past the curbing given a little extra space.

I looked a couple in Custer SP in SD, they mention total length. I called and was told it is indeed the TV and the trailer combined. I was asking as my TV is 20' and me 16' trailer would only fit on a few sites out of the whole park. I'm told by members here that no one checks and most are longer then my setup. Kind of an iffy thing. I must say that at all the SP's I've been at I've yet to have any problems what so ever checking in.
