Anybody using any type of sliding tray system in your outside storage compartments. We recently upgraded campers but lost a bit of outside storage. However the new compartments have huge doors so I was thinking about some type of tray that slides so I can have easier access to the middle of the compartment. Did a quick google search and came up with some very expensive options, little more than I would like to spend. Any suggestions

If you consider that you can use the first foot or even 18 inches or maybe even 24 inches into the insides of your existing space, get yourself some full extension 24 inch drawer slides and build drawers that extend inward 12 or 18 or 24 inches past full extension so that the total usable space is 36 or 42 or 48 inches.

If you can buy full extension slides longer than 24 inches, even better. I built some like that for an under dinette slide that remained eight inches inside the space, and are totally usable that way.

My pass through storage is organized in to eight plastic laundry baskets. Seems pretty handy to remove four from each side and have access to everything without loosing much storage space.

You will actually lose space with a sliding tray - the space between the edge of your opening and the wall plus the space occupied by the rail on the other side. It does make it easier to reach the center items, tho. Like most things, it is a trade-off. You can get sliding drawer kits from CW or other parts suppliers - you supply the floor of the drawer to make it any size you need. A little less expensive and more flexible way to do it.

My trailer came w/ a sliding drawer, pulled it out first thing. As stated already it wasted a lot of space also found it a pain to use. I store long items like my easy up and patio mat. Use containers for the rest. Tons more room.

Put me down as another who took out the sliding drawers.
It took up too much space.
Measure the cubic area of your compartment within an arms length when you reach in as far as you can. Chance are it will be more than what the whole drawer offers.

Camping World sells sliding storage trays Pretty pricey if you ask me. All your getting is the hardware, you have to supply the plywood I believe they go as long as 54" but you can make them as narrow as you want.

Ill check that out. If I do it I need something long like that to make it worth it. I am heading to the hardware store today to see what my homemade options are.

Plus if you need to get to something in the middle you can use your awning rod and just hook on to it and pull it forward. That is if you have stuff in totes.
