Hey Everyone,
I'm planning to start on a long trip in a travel trailer. My job allows me to telecommute thus as long as I have access to power and reliable internet, I'm golden. At the moment I have a smartphone with Verizon that has an unlimited data plan which I can tether assuming there is proper cell coverage.
What I need though is a backup in case Verizon doesn't have coverage where I am, or they decide to cut me off. From looking around the best options I could find had a monthly data cap of 12GB. This is insanely low and something I'd blow through in less than 3 days.
Do any of you have any reliable nation-wide internet options that you would recommend, or would satellite internet (which is crazy expensive) be the only other alternative?
Thanks.

There is only one way to have certain internet connection wherever you choose to go, and that is via via satellite dish.

My job is completely on the internet and requires a constant connection through a VPN. My normal usage is 5-6GB a day which is mainly web browsing, but includes IM, Skype, and SSH.
I'm sure that even for a normal user 12 GB will be too little as well. Streaming one movie will typically take 2-3 GB of data alone.

Look into a Millenicom mifi ...The deal i have is 20G 3G/4G for under $70/month. If I'm in a 4G area, then I'm whacked back to 10G for my monthly amount. I find very few places where I go that have 4G speed.
I also use a Wilson cradle (which is VERY uncomplicated and easy to use). Bought that from the 3G store online. Boosts my signal on my mifi unit and I can also lay my cell phone on it and get a better signal as well. (Cell phone is Sprint).
I was able to do text email in Yosemite Valley a few weeks ago and i was able to get a good phone signal (no internet) in Death Valley with what I have.
Just do a search on rv.net for Millenicom or Wilson Cradle and you should get all kinds of info.

Thanks. It looks like they offer an unlimited plan however how is the coverage with it? Their coverage page is throwing errors for me so I cant check myself.

I have Verizon Mi-Fi. Verizon has a 10GB plan for $80 per month and each additional GB is $10 per month. We have used Verizon all over the US with only a couple of times when we didn't get a good enough signal to get online. It's much faster than when I tethered the phone. I also use a Wilson Sleek booster for fringe areas (you can order them thru walmart or amazon.com). Verizon also has business plans and VPN of your company is paying.

Hi,
You may find that Verizon will throttle your bandwidth even if the plan is supposedly unlimited. It will be back to dial up speed.
Millenicom does have a 20 gig Verizon plan and a 50 gig Sprint plan. For the kind of data you are using I'd get both, and then put them into a cradlepoint wifi router so the bandwidth (and speed) could be shared too.
Sprint doesn't have a lot of coverage in the Midwest.

Thanks everyone. I think I've found what I wanted, or at least found the right direction.
