OK, so we finally purchased a Jayco 26.5, now we need the hitch placed in the F250, the dealer where we purchased the 5er obviously wants to install it, what would be a reasonable cost to allow him to do that? Would it be less expensive to go to another place to have it installed, we drive a f250 diesel, weight and everything is in line. thanks kld

I think I paid a little less than $300 to get our old hitch put in the new truck. It is a Reese 15,000# with a hitch weight of 3,750# and a slider, if that makes any difference. They took the old rails and put them in the new truck. Had some kind of kit so they didn't have to drill too many, if any, holes in the frame. The slider hitches are a tad bit expensive, more so than the regular ones. Did you get the HT fifth-wheel. What model 26.5 did you get?

It took me about 3 hours to install my frame brackets, drill the holes for the rails and install the rails. I would think reasonable would be 3 hours times whatever their hourly shop rate is.

X2- it took me 3 hours. I figured I saved $300. Shop online for lowest price for same hitch dealer is offering and have them match it plus about 3 hrs labor.

I am incapable of installing the rails. Last month I bought a Curt Q24 and a rail kit. Installation was $285.00 and Curt Hitch cost me about $600.00 online. My truck was a "chassis truck" so rail install was not easy as standard pickup.. Also had to cut into plastic bed liner. My regular mechanics did it! Very happy...

It is a rear kitchen model RKS, and I do not have a hitch.I am going to have to purchase it from the dealer along with installation, and I think a slider is appropriate, so would around 1000$ installed be appropriate? I can always buy the hitch and install it but letting them do it seems simpler if the cost is somewhat similar.

It is not that difficult to install yourself. Just do the measurements, drill the holes and bolt in the rails. I did that for my AIRSAFE hitch and it was a pretty straightforward job.

Good Luck.

Greetings;
I figure you need a hitch first. Got hitch. If the place where you purchased it is willing have them install it. Should the dealer have the skills and knowledge - that is also and option. Either or - the installer should give a warranty and adjust (level off) the hitch so it is set inline with the 5er.

Ask the installer to also hook up your brake controller and get them to test and set it properly as well. My opinion.

Since you indicated you needed a slider, then I assume you have a short bed truck. If so, an automatic slider similar to Superglide would be your best bet, but wow, they are expensive. Regardless, first decide what hitch you need, then price them all over the internet and at local installers, and take that best price back to your dealer and ask for the same. Get them to provide and instal the controller also, perhaps on their dime. After all, you're buying the FW from them.

I had my hitch installed at a place that does them all the time, not at an RV dealer. I think I got a PROPER installation by doing this. I would highly recommend you do the same. Hitch markup can be pretty high at RV dealers but not so much at a place that specializes in hitches. Just my humble opinion....
