I have searched this forum for the answer with no luck. What is the best height range for the top of the bed rails to the bottom of the 5th wheel over hang?

IMHO 6" is minimum......more the better/less chance of contact provided 5'vr is running level

It's been discussed a lot, but generally posted here that 6" clearance is a good thing. The higher these new truck beds get, the tougher that "hat trick" is to achieve.

Rule of thumb is 5" - 6", with 6" being safer.

Six inches seems to be the very least you want to go with, more if you go very far off road. I have 6 inches and have never touched the rails, that includes 11400 miles to Alaska and back last summer.

I just had some modifications done to the unit and I will know in a few weeks. I am just getting ready to see what was done and how much clearance I have.

6 inches minimum, I have a 9 inch clearance and have been very close to hitting a few times.
