This is not a trip report! It is a great book and should be read by anyone, everyone who loves travel. Thanks again for some great reading.
Safe travels.

Those plastic windows scratch easily and can cost RV renters some of their deposit.
Guess how I know.
They have very nice built in shades or screens however. The trick is opening the window then closing the screen before the bugs get in.
spacedoutbob ~ Hey Bob! Thanks for the info on the windows. It is not something I am interested, just curious. I have grown to enjoy seeing all the different Truck Campers, especially in Yellowstone, where it seems to be a great place to see vintage truck campers. I have to disclose, I love dark sky and star gazing. This was something that we as a family did on many of our yearly backpack trips, especially around August 12th, every year. But, I don’t have a telescope, but my son has been into it, since he was like 5. When he was ten, he and one of my favorite friends/(Ranger Bob Grand Teton National Park);
and he would stand and look at the stars and talk in a language only another astronomer would understand. My buddy, Ellis, is only invited if he brings his telescope. He likes having my trailer available to store it during the day. Maybe you have run into my longtime friend, Pat Madison, at the Lick Observatory. My talent is to surround myself with friends that have these telescopes, some as big as a truck. My buddy, Ellis, will be doing a Star Night show at Lava Beds National Monument, California, late July to early August. He is retired from the NPS, but like most, can’t get it out of his blood. Maybe you should go.
dakonthemountain ~ Hey dak! I have become a big fan of your posts and trips, thanks for stopping and checking out my trip report. That must be some really great memories to have of your Stepfather. This would be a park with so many hidden and lost stories. Certainly worth listening to, some night on the high desert of California. Happy travels this season!
sirdrakejr ~ Hey Frank. Thanks for the kind words. My objective was to put something together that would share a recent visit to Death Valley with other forum members, as well as informative for others that might want to visit and plan for a visit.
Lots_of _Stuff ~ Even after 3 visits, multiple weeks each, I am just a rookie compared to many I have encountered in how many years/times that they have visited too. The resounding comment is; “What an amazingly beautiful place. I know I will be back, as others will too. Thanks for the info on the windows. I am like you, scratches is not in the game for me either.
5percent ~ Thanks! I have been a fan of your reports, as well. I am glad you liked my photos and will find the report helpful for your own adventures. The links I put into place, I had hoped would provide more detail than my report does.
Bryan, You're Welcome! If I get a chance, I will check out the Lava Beds National Monument. I love Stargazing, it is so relaxing and you never know what you will find or see! The scope in the picture looks like a C8, Mine is a later version of that scope. I also have a 17.5" Truss Tube Dobsonian, however it is too big to put in my truck or camper, one of these days, I will buy a small trailer to lug it around with me and use it in the dark skies I get when I go camping and get away from the light pollution. I figure the camping trips you took around August 12th were perfect for the Perseid Meteor Shower, I try to get up to the Eastern Sierra for that particular Meteor shower if the Moon is not up. Thanks again for all the Fantastic Information, I agree, it wasn't a post, but a great book for all to read and enjoy.
You may be a rookie to some ol desert rats who haven't seen a toothbrush this year but you're THE MAN when it comes to trip reports full of life, friends and info. My hats off to you Bryan. I'm sitting here solo at the Overland Expo and wondering...where in the world is Bryan? You should be here my friend, taking pictures and chatting up the neighbors.

Wow - great TR Bryan. I heard rumor that there was such an epic new report here that it brought the RV.net world down to it's bumpstops and nearly broke its rear-axle.....sure enough it was yours.
I haven't been on the forum since before my somewhat crazy spring - it's funny how a simple excuse like getting behind on the reading can be enough to stop the RV.net addiction cold turkey (I was out of the country for the better part of a month) but I maybe all it takes is a simple excuse (I HAD to go check out your Death Valley thread) to get back to reading again. Thanks for the kick in the pants and sharing all the adventures you had on your stay in DV. You really have a gift for sharing your experience with photography & narrative & reference for more.
As I read through parts one and two I was worried about having to complain about the post since I didn't see hide nor hair of a TC but you finally came through on post 3 with some around the campground (though none of your rig?) So Brad doesn't have to remove it...
I know you must like to hear feedback about your photos, so for what it is worth after reading through once only and pretty much start to finish the photos that now come back to my mind on their own first, are the weathervane, the shadowed sand pattern, (I stared at both of those for a long time) and (being the geologist) the suite (sweet?) of photos of the channels and tunnels and canyons in the cemented alluvium. Some of those wouldn fit right in on the cover of a Geology journal, or the park brochure.
Fantastic trip report and incredible photos. The only problem with trip reports of this quality is that people might feel like they no longer need to visit and see for themselves!! ; ) Good thing I visited twice this year before seeing your work.

Ahhhhh, so THAT'S why they post them! What a sneaky way of keeping the place to yourself! Good strategy! (oh, but I'm going anyway! )
