Have a String broken on the daynight shades. Are there any way to replace one broken string?

When ours break, we've been replacing them with mini-blinds special ordered from Lowe's. So far works great...

It's about the same amount of work whether you replace one or all strings in a shade. Check here for materials and instructions.

You can restring yourself or there are many companies that clean and restring them. Of course you can buy new shades but if all that is wrong with them is a broken string it is far cheaper to have them restrung.

I'd suggest replacing all the strings on a blind, not just the one that broke or you'll be redoing it later and use a higher quality/thicker string to last longer.

The next best option, one that many people are doing and manufacturers have done...put up a different type of shade. Many switched to MCD then they moved on to another kind. I figure it's a fad thing--at one time many had mini blinds and roller shades then came the day/nights then back to roller shades. Who knows what will be the next one they will come up with.

Myself...I'm going to replace the shades in ours with 2 layers of curtains that can more easily be washed and most certainly easier to replace.

Try going to fixmyblinds.com, you can buy the right string there and get instructions as well. I agree with others it is just as easy to replace all the strings instead of just one. Good Luck!

If you restring yourself, you'll have to work to get the broken string replaced. Once that is done, replace the unbroken strings one at a time by tying a light weight fishing line to the old string, pull the fishing line through, tie the new string to the fishing line, and then pull the new line through using the fishing line. If you tie the new line to the old line, the knot is too large to go through all of the openings.

It may look daunting, but once you get in there and see whats going on it ain't no big deal. It sure wasn't assembled by "skilled" workers because 1/2 of the internal issues are lousy assembly. Just fixed the biggest shade in the coach, and now carry all the string and pieces to repair anything when needed.

When my mh was new, within the first year, all the strings on all 4 blinds broke. Dealer fixed, no problem. When I inquired about having this done after the warranty, I was told: 1 hour labor. That = 100 bucks. OUCH!

So...removed the day/nites (for measurements) and off to "Blinds To Go" and had the day/nite shades replaced by plastic mini-blinds....$130. Bit of a hassle getting to some of the mounting blocks (really tight spacing), but in the end....no further problems. The mini-blinds fit perfectly, and was able to use the lower anchors from the day/nite shades.
