I had my roof replaced in October of 2010 by a local RV company that has been in business for quite sometime. A few weeks ago I pulled my 5th wheel out of storage and noticed that the front cap trim where the rubber roof goes under had a 1/2" gap. I thought well it just needs to be tightened up and re-caulked. Well I also noticed that the rubber had had some ripples in the front and after I had someone else look at it they said that the rubber is getting air up underneth and its causing it to bubble while going down the road. I was going camping that afternoon and I was able to tilt my mirror enough to see the bubble while driving. I called the RV guy that replaced the roof and told him what happened and he said sorry but it's out of my 1 year warranty.
I took the trailer back where I bought it from about 60 miles from home and he said that he can try to re-glue the roof but it may not hold. He said he could cut the roof back about 6 feet and replace just that piece that is loose and put a metal strip over the seam and seal up very good.

I did contact my insurance company that replaced it in 2010 and said they can call the RV company but they have no other recourse.

What are your thoughts? Any ideas that I can go back to the service company or insurance company with?
The roof repair is about $450 to re-glue but $900 to place the front part. And then what would that do for resale?

Thanks

I think I might file an insurance claim and let =them= fight it out with the guy who re-did the roof. Personally, I'd either re-roof totally or at least to the cut-back, but if the front let go already, I'd be worried about the rest. As for re-sale, I'd much rather have an older FW with a =new= roof, even if patched, than and all-old roof. :-)

Lyle,
I was thinking about filing another claim but the agent that I spoke with that handled the original claim said that it would be denied but that is probably her job. Do you think the insurance company should take care of this? The guy that re-did the roof will not even look at it and said it must have been a storm that caused the air to get under the rubber. I know his 1 year is up but he was paid $7000 to replace the roof and 2 dealers have said it was not glued well enough or they let the glue set-up before laying the rubber down.
Thanks G

I would go back to the the guy that re-did it and tell him the warranty does not have anything to do with his workmanship. It would have lasted longer than one year if the the job was done correctly in the first place. Actually, I think that since your insurance covered and paid for it the first time they should hit up the guy or maybe take him to small claims court. $7000 is nothing to sneeze at.

If it were =me=, I'd be talking =real= serious with my insurance company, if they are going to deny the claim. Since you didn't post details of the original repair, it's somewhat hard to say. If you went with =their= recommended repair center, then, IMO, it's back on them to fix it. I know it's frowned upon saying here, but this may boil down to a legal solution. :-( Good luck.

Lyle it looks like you and I are thinking the same thing. It must be because we both have the same name. My middle name is Lyle.

Take some pictures then go back to the owner of the place that put the new roof on and sit down and talk to him. If worse comes to worse in this meeting threaten to go to small claims court with the situation and the Better Business Bureau. It will cost him a day or two to deal with small claims court issues (where he will probably lose anyway)and maybe he will realize this and be more responsive.I can't see the insurance company getting involved unless they recommended this repair facility.

If you do decide to go and talk with the shop that did the repair I would not say anything about going to small claims court. What I would say is, I will be handing this over to my insurance company for them to deal with. If he does enough insurance work he might just work with you.

The thing with telling someone that you are going to take them to court is your warning gives them time to get their story straight. I would much rather have them surprised when they get served.

Good Luck, I hope you can get this fixed and fixed properly.

Check this out, I have not done it nor seen it done. But sure beats what the dealer is trying to do.

Just a shot in the dark, but did you use a credit card? Sometimes the credit card company can help put pressure on the repair shop for poor workmanship.
