As I'm researching all sorts of travel trailers, I'm not finding much that come with a u-shaped or L-shaped dinettes. I've found several KZ's, which look great, but our nearest KZ dealer is 3 hours away. I'd like to find something closer. Nothing used in our vicinity either, after a quick look. Do you all think that a u-shaped would be a better fit for a family of 5, and possible guests as one of our children is getting old enough where a friend may come along. Are they essential for comfort? The husband and I aren't what I would consider "small" and I can't see fitting more than 4 people comfortably in a standard dinette, right? Thoughts?

i prefer (but do not have) the u shapped dinette. If they have a table that folds down or could be removed it wouild be better. Often times models come with u shaped so that it combines the sofa and the table. Some of them are VERY large and same are small.

I also have a dinette but would prefer a U-shaped. If I'm not mistaken, the U-shape is generally something offered in newer TTs. There may be a few older TTs with a U-shape but probably not a lot.

Trying to squeeze 5 in a standard dinette will not be comfortable even for average sized people.

A good option might be to look for an outside kitchen using the campground provided picnic table...unless you plan on boon docking.

Our Puma FQSS has a U-shaped dinette, which I really like, but this being our first camper I have no comparisons. We have two young kids, so if the DW and I sit on each side they have to say in and eat like they're supposed to! Haven't slept on it yet, but looks to fold down into a nice sized bed.

Had the U--shape dinette in the Jayco 21C. Great for lounging and offered queen size bed when broke down. I suggest taking the fam and see if you an all fit comfortably. They aren't for everyone but like the use of space.

Forgot about using the outside picnic table, thanks for that reminder RedRocket. I suppose a u-shaped is still nice for those rainy days inside, but I think I will be more open now to the standard dinettes. Do you generally lose your sofa when you have a larger u-shaped dinette? Hopefully that isn't the case :/

If I recall it is the 2005 Trail Lite that has a high countertop that backs up to the dinette bench by the door. It happens to be perfect for two stools. Gives seating for 6 comfortably. My 2000 has a low cabinet there. It is getting torn out soon for a high counter and two stools like the newer model... after all kid #5 is on the way. I typically sit at the couch when we have to eat inside...

We really wanted the u-shaped dinette though....

I've never measured it but our spec sheet said 81" U-dinette. We had the standard dinette in our old trailer and 4 people was real cramped. 4 People fit comfortably in our u-dinette, 5 Would be alittle cramped because there isn't much leg room under the table (no one can really sit at the corner's). One Nice thing is I carry 2 bar stools, pull them up on the open floor side and whala 6 at the table.

U-shape dinette is great. We have that in our Lance 2185 and we fit the 5 of us fine. Playing games is great with this style.

Our last RV did not have it and it was only good for 4 while eating. Someone was always left out usually my wife..but no more.

The Lance has a pretty good sized dinette also.
