I currently have 3-12 volt DC Hybrid batteries for the house, about 140 or so AHr each. Thinking of replacing them with 2-6 volt GC2 (T105's) with 225 AHr.
Thus, my way of thinking is that 2 GC2's are better than the 3-12volts, as my total AHr would be 450 instead of 420. Plus the CG batteries would hold up longer.

Is my thinking correct?

Nope. Two 6s is the AH of one 6 but twice the voltage. Sorry!

As BFL13 says, the 2 GC2's would have a total of 225 AH, versus 420 for the 3 12-volts. Voltage is added in series, current is added in parallel.

Thanks for the answers, so, let me ask this. Which would be the better way to go. The 2 6's or the 3 12's?

Would love to have 4 6's but don't have the room, 3 is as far as I can go.

Three 12V's. Don't lose your capacity.

What do the batteries have to do? Eg 3-12s at 50% SOC will not alarm off a 2000w inverter running a microwave, but 2-6s at 50% will.

However, 2-6s at 75% SOC will not alarm off that inverter doing the microwave. Do you go down to 50% or stay above 75% while camping?

It is all situational

Given the choices you present. 3 12's is better than 2 6's.

My recommendation is 4 sixes (2 pair) in series/parallel.

What group size are those 12 volt batteries? 130 Ah sounds like Group 29/31.
The three 12v will be better than the two 6v.

Possibly you are reading RC (reserve capacity) of a group 24 at 130?

Hi,

Just make sure you wire the 3 12's in a balanced manner.

Thanks, I'll try to answer few of the questions tonight, a few will have to wait till morning..
I run normal electronics in the mh, no micro, no hot water heater. I do have a cpap I use at night.
While dry camping, I'll run the genset for about 1.5 to 2 hrs in the morning and evening. The current batteries are about 2 years old. So, is time to replace them.
I have drained them down to 11.6v, try not to but s#@t happens.
I don't have room for the 4th battery, so I have used the start batteries, when long term dry camping.
I have group 29. As I wanted strong batteries, but still am replacing every 2 years.
again thanks for the answers, as said this subject is like beating a dead horse.
