I received a pleasant surprise today when I asked the RV park management if I could extend two more weeks at the monthly rate. I didn't expect a "yes" but that's exactly what happened. I'm at a park in southern AZ which is slowly clearing out as summer approaches. The park owner evidently felt it made good business sense to rent out what would otherwise have been a non-revenue creating site for a lesser price rather than make no profit at all. So my message to all: don't hesitate to negotiate if you're in the same situation.
How the numbers came out: 1/2 monthly rate = $145 (or a little over $70/wk). The regular weekly rate would have been almost double, although electric would be included. I'm still ahead...

The park we winter at in FL does it all the time. They prorate the monthly rate by the number of days either left in the month on arrival or number of extra days staying.

Yup, a nice strategy. Weekly rates are fine, but monthly's are real nice. We are going to look at 2 weeks and wonder, will they take the weekly x2 or give us 1/2 of the monthly. We are about to find out, but as approach Summer in the northern regions, I doubt we can pull of the 1/2 month rate. ALWAYS worth negotiating, I won't know the answer until I inquire.

We always extend discounts based on how long you are there. If you are there for a week, you get the weekly discount on that week and any additional days. We will also retro-actively apply any discount you ultimately would be entitled to. i.e: you initial stay was 4 nights and you added three additional nights, either one day at a time or all three at once you would then be entitled to, and receive the weekly discount on all those nights. What we don't do is give any of the length of stay discounts for a shorter period of time, and we will re-calculate a stay to the rate you actually stay, for example, you intially register for a 7 night stay and get the weekly discount, then you decide to leave after 4 days, we would calculate a refund based on the four nights you stay at the daily rate, add in any cancellation charges and then refund any difference. And no, the argument you are staying for 1/2 a week or 1/2 a month wouldn't entitle you to the weekly or month rate.

Sounds like the park owner/manager is a very smart business person. In this case you both won. It never hurts to ask; just don't make an offer that would insult the other person.

The park we are in wanted to charge the daily rate ($45)..after being there a month, for an additional five days. They would not negotiate so we are leaving when the month is up. Not about to pay half the monthly rate for FIVE days!

The park I stayed at in Richland, Wa for 2 years refused to negotiate on their weekly rate to allow for 2 weeks(our contract was extended by 2 weeks in area) it was cheaper to pay for another month than to pay the weekly rate. By the way way we stayed for the hole month since we really did not need to be anywhere. The owners were not happy when after we paid for the month they asked and were told that we would not move until the month was up, we found out they had double booked our spot.
