What is the extra cost to drive a Class A, with air conditioning ON, versus OFF. Does anyone know what that would roughly cost....we have a 32 foot gasoline coach. Thank you so much.

i 'spose you could figure a way to calculate it but i think it would be negiglible. if your budget is *that* tight then you'll need to find other ways to economize. we drive with the dash air on and the genny running so we can run the coach air. i'd rather arrive cool and comfortable instead of hot, sweaty and a few pennies richer.

Depending on how hot it is, a rough guess would be 1/2 to 1 gallon per hour.

If you are referring to the dash air it will be very little, probably not measurable.
If the genny and roof ac it would average .5-.8 gallons per hour. depending upon whether it was running under full load.
Most dash ac's will not cool the whole coach. We run the genny and use the roof ac whenever the dash will not handle it.
I apologize for the rude comments made.

Hi,
It takes about 35 horsepower to run the "dash air". It is not a significant extra load. The only true way to tell would be to do a 3 or 4 thousand mile trip with air on, and then do exactly the same trip with the air off.

You can research the fuel use of your generator based on load, and calculate the direct cost. I figure my onan quiet diesel 7.5 uses 1/2 to slightly more gallons per hour under load, so my direct cost is about $2.00 to $2.50 per hour. Of course there are other costs, such as oil, filter, fuel filter changes for the genset. Mine gets changed based on age, so that is a cost I'm going to pay anyway.
Overall, the cost of running the generator and air conditions is not a material cost considering what it costs to move the motorhome down the highway.

Roughly 1/2 gallon an hour so little less than $2 an hour.
Now if dash air is off you may get slighly better mpg so you almost come out even. At least that is what I tell myself.

but then you'd not be able to precisely duplicate the weather conditions, quality of the fuel, the speed at which you drove and so on. it's an interesting intellectual exercise but that's about all.

Hi rk911,
That's why 3 or 4 thousand miles. That would tend to average out the differences in temp wind and etc.
I suspect the differences are pretty minor.
