We brought our brand new Travel Trailer home today and I want to do everything I can to keep it in excellent condition.
Do you guys recommend RV covers?
We are in a northern climate (Kingston, Ontario)
If covers are in fact worth it, which type, brand is the best available?
Can you get them custom made or do you get one off the rack?
Your help is appreciated.

We paid a lot for an ADCO for our new Toy Hauler, it looked nice for about one week and then the birds pecked 18 holes in it, anywhere from dime sized to 6 inch holes. JH

While living in So CA we had one on our MH. It worked OK. It did keep the salt air off the MH. The problem is the wind when it get under the cover. It bangs the cover against MH finish and IMHO seems to be harder on the MH finish than the elements.

We used one for years here in MI but found out it was more fun to Snowbird than have to cover the rig for the winter. The cover did make a big difference not only on keeping the rig cleaner all winter but also on the interior since we have MaxxAir covers we left the vents open all winter for air circulation.

We bought an Adco Tyvek cover for our MH. We did not do the custom fit, but wish we would have because ours ended up just over one size and into the next. We live in WI. We did tie it down as tight as possible, and folded over the extra in the middle, so the zippers still gave us access, and we secured it with straps all the way over and around to keep things tight. We did not notice any rubbing or problem when we took it off this spring. Just be sure to pad sharp edges or it will tear. We plan to take ours to an car upholstery shop to get it fit properly for next winter. Not only does the cover help for the winter, but it does protect the plastic covers on the roof from getting brittle from the sun. Good investment.

I had one on my 5er for one year. Also an ADCO, I spent a lot of time putting it on and tieing it down properly. The zipper did allow ingress to the unit when we needed it which was nice.
We live in an area with a lot of wind. As others have said, even when tied down, the cover wilballoonon up with a good gust of wind. When we uncovered for the camping season I noticed some rub marks from the cover.
I guess that's a long winded way of saying that I don't like nor will I use a cover anymore. I think your better off putting a good coat of wax on in the fall before storage. I'm fortunate enough to now have a garage for my 5er.

Search this Forum for `RV Cover' and read yourself to sleep. I doubt if anything new can be added. We use a Sunshield tarp as stated previously.

I am up in MN and winterized one year without a cover...
Ice damage... since putting the cover on... no ice damage... course my rig is a bit older without the once piece rubber roof... but...
I do have a custom fit ADCO, dual zipper access on the rear.
Any flopping around from the wind was only under my rig which a couple extra straps (bungee cords) fixed.

As said above, there are many threads on here about covers - some love them, some don't. We started with a cheapie generic one, but then invested in a custom one from CalMark. We love the way it keeps the trailer clean and dry so it is ready to go when uncovered. We just traded for a new trailer, and will be ordering a new cover from CalMark as soon as we take delivery.

I didn't the first year but did buy an off the rack ADCO from CW. I will echo the othre comment about padding especially around the gutter down spouts. Not that hard to put on or take off and the zippers give you easy access. I like mine.
