PIs cost less than Surge Guards and now have a lifetime warranty. PI's hardwired EMS units (much better than simple surge and spike protection) can be serviced in the field which is faster than having to send the unit in for repair. None of the Surge Guard EMS units can be repaired.

In the 6 years I'll visited this forum I've seen only one bad vs. dozens of good reviews about Progressive's quality and service. I'm sorry to say that I can't say the same about GurgeGuard. Although there are a lot of satisfied SurgeGuard users there have been numerous comments that after their stated warranty expires their only response is "buy a new one".
As far as protection their 50 amp EMS products are almost identical but SurgeGuard's cost about $100 more. On all other units Progressive's Joule ratings are substantially higher (the higher the Joules the better the surge protection).
Do multiple searches above to see past postings about Progressive and SurgeGuard for more information.

I searched on "progressive" and found these 5 bad reviews of Progressive products for just a little over one year -- I'm guessing that there will be more if I go back a full 6 years:
Circuit Board Fell Out
Forum User on His 4th Bad 50A Progressive
Inaccurate Current Readings
Progressive Unit Scorched Floor
I'm sure you could find TRC Surge Guard horror stories too, but that's not the point -- you're claiming Progressive units are superior, right?
If this is all you can come up with after 6 years, well, I'm not convinced.

Yes, and Surge Guards are bigger than Progressives -- but Surge Guards have Plain English remote displays as opposed to Progressive's "E" codes (keep a chart handy to remind you that "E-6" means "Line voltage below 106 volts"). I'll take Plain English for the extra $100.

Two internal units compared . . .
3,580 joules & 88,000A surge current -- Progressive 50A HW50C (page 2 of install manual)
3,350 joules & 130,000A surge current -- Surge Guard 50A Model 40240 (page 1 of product sheet)

I'm not an Electrical Engineer, so I'll gladly defer to their expertise, but I believe surge protection is not simply a matter of who has the greater joule rating.

I have a Progressive EMS and it has saved me several times for low voltage. When I was researching both I found the Progressive had greater protection ratings than the competition.

I hardwired the Progressive after buying my RV listed in my
signature below, have never owned a Surge Guard, the Progressive
has never failed me, only thing I have to turn it off while
running my generator, otherwise it does what it's supposed to do.

I have the Surge Guard 50 amp and it has done it's job so far. The first one we had stopped working for some reason and was replaced under warranty with no issues. They didn't require that we send the old one in, just shipped us a new one. Plus the unit was actually a week or two out of warranty but no problem.
