Well, I just got my new RV (see Class C), now what do I do. I was thinking of some short trips to get used to everything, but I think I have a better idea. About 20 miles from my home is a really nice RV park. I leased a spot there for a month.
Tomorrow I'm going to drive the RV down there and have a friend follow me with my truck. I'll hook everything up normally. Then I'll just see how it works. Work all the systems as if I was actually staying there. I may even spend a few nights... ok, maybe more than a few. If something goes terribly wrong, I'm just a short distance from anything I need to fix it.
I think this will be a great way to learn about the RV without putting myself into a position where a failure could be critical. In addition, this RV Campground is in the same town as one of Nexus' network service facilities. Just in case...
In the meantime, I'll have the contractors start on my new RV Garage.

Great Idea....
You may want to take some overnight trips away from the RV park to another cloe by park just to get comfortable with driving, parking and setup.

We're having our first outing with our trailer this weekend, at a local campground. We're only staying one night though.
Here's to our "maiden voyages"!

Sounds like a great plan to me. We do the same whenever we get a new (to us) RV. To practice parking, you can try several sites at the same park (if you tell the owners what you're doing.) Go over there on a Monday evening and then on Tuesday and Wednesday, practice parking at the different sites.
We also put a back up camera on our Class C and had it wired to the running lights so it's on even while driving. Makes lane changing less harrowing.
First law of science: don't spit into the wind.
Keep on rollin'!

You might also try just camping in your driveway if your HOA allows. This gives you a chance to see what extras you may need or forgot and allows you to do some minor fixes with your tools readily available. Try to avoid any temptations to use the stick and brick house during your "camping trip".

haha... that's funny. I live in the woods. I AM my HOA.
That would be an excellent idea, except I don't have a spot that's near close enough to be as flat as I need to level the RV. I'm having a garage built just for the RV, and the contractor is going to level a nice spot and pour a slab. It'll be wide enough to allow the slide room to be extended while in the garage. I'll have 30 amp service run in there as well.

I have a backup camera as well. Worked great on the way home until it didn't. Anxiously awaiting a call from their tech...

That sounds like a wonderful way to do a shake down trip. Have fun!
Our shake down went like this. PDI and pick up TT on Friday. Load and prep Sat. leave Sunday for 9 days in record heat and then move to freeing temps at night for 6 days. We really got to test everything within a few hours of home.

Go ahead and install 50A wiring, in case you need it later. Wire costs a little more, but go ahead and do it right. 50A can be adapted down to 30A connections, but 30A will always be 30A.
