I know this is likely a stupid question, but after reading posts on the subject, as well as looking around at dealers and other rigs, I've come across a couple gassers that have a decent price tag (Thor ACE, Fleetwood Storm), but I read lots of warnings against buying these.
Are they worse in quality than a decent class A rig? Obviously that much mass coupled with a Ford V-10 won't make it the fastest rig on the RV park, but I wonder if that is a major issue.
One example, is the Fleetwood Storm. It has a drop-down bunk in the front, and some nice floorplans (I like the 30SA FP just because the bathroom is of a decent size for example.) The price is right on it as well (a place has it for about $60k) However, I keep people stating to run, don't walk, away from any class A that isn't a DP.
Are class A gassers that bad, or are DPs such a step up in quality, where it makes anything below it pale in comparison?
*edited* Meant class "A" rig.

You are getting some strange information somewhere. I believe you will find that there are lots of class a owners who are very satisfied with their rigs. I would count myself as one of them. I also owned a class c for 8 years that I liked a lot, but it was time for more living space and less unused sleeping space. And, as far as performance is concerned - there is little difference between that of an a vs c. Of course, if you are comparing a 23' c with a 36' a, of course the c will have a bit more get up and go.
There are many existing threads that deal with gas vs diesel and if you read them all, it will probably end up a draw. There as many arguments for one as there is for another. If I had a pile of money, I would trade my 34' gasser for a brand new Newell, but I don't have the money and I am pretty happy with what I have.
Although it's not perfect, we're quite satisfied with our 02 Georgetown which we bought used in '09. What problems we've had have either been self-inflicted by the dumb owner (me) or relatively minor.
It rides like the 11-ton box truck it's descended from, but for 3500 miles a year utilisation, I can live with it.

The only gas motorhomes we ever had problems with, were built by Fleetwood. Owned two 2000 models, because the 1st was so bad they took it back, no questions asked in less than 6 months. The 2nd wasn't much better. Like fools, we traded for a new 2003 Fleetwood DP, which was pure junk.....Never another Fleetwood for us, except maybe the American line. Several friends own Georgetown gas class A's and they are very happy with them. Just check the CCC of any gas class A, as some are overloaded, the minute you walk through the door and set in the drivers seat.

Wonder why the OP is asking about a "decent class C rig" in the Class A forum??? If you are asking about Class A's, I own a 2007 Newmar Mountain Aire that I consider pretty decent, never been ashamed to drive it into a park and it is not falling apart in my hands.

To buy a gasser or deseil depends on how much mileage you plan on doing. We have a 2005 Georgie Boy on a 2004 f53 chassis. It has the 415 cbi with the 310 horse power. We installed the 5startuning in it and love it. We just came up I26 TO I77 to I81 and climbed the mountains at 40 mph in 3rd gear. We came up a 14 percent 3/4 mile grade at 30 mph in 2nd gear from a dead stop. We tow a 2008 HHR that weighs 3100 lbs. Our total weight was 21,900 lbs.
