I bought a '98 29 foot Winnie Brave on a 7.4 liter GM chassis $right$ and drove it 1200 miles back from FL. On flat land in the southern US I got 9.9 mpg. Hilly country from Winchester, VA to Ridgway, PA it got 9.4 mpg. With 47k on the clock, it used 6 oz. of oil over the 1200 miles. I was not towing anything, nor do I intend to, but the previous owner said he got 7.75 mpg towing a Chevy Equinox. The unit is quiet inside when on the highway. I guess the motor is well insulated from sound.
Personally, I hate diesel. The only time I use diesel is in a John-Deere tractor I own. It is nasty, messy stuff to handle in my opinion. As soon as you step out onto the diesel fueling area, the stuff is everywhere on the ground and you end up with it on your feet and it gets tracked everywhere. Many diesel rigs I've looked at used had obvious signs of diesel being tracked inside onto the carpets.
When people brag about owning a diesel pusher, I chuckle to myself.

Our last rig was a 2003 Pace Arrow, which was a terrific Gasser. We only traded it in because we wanted more space, since we are in our rig for 7 months straight. I would not hesitate to recommend that rig to anyone........

Our MH was available on DP chassis or gas, We chose gas, the DP was about $20k more, that bought us a lot of gas. We would buy it again!!!!

My friend just spent over 5k for tires and 600 for a tranny service on his monaco. Yea I really like my gasser now!

As many threads around here declare: Only DPs are worth the money. Believe it! Please.
That makes more gassers available at a reasonable price.

Yep....we have a 2006 model "gasser" unit with the Workhorse Chassis, 8.1 liter, Allison transmission, and when I asked if this would be a good unit in 2006 (new), several DP owners badmouthed gas units. Really? Where are these posters now? Oh yeah....gone. LOL
Remember, even if a DP engine in the motorhome has 80K miles, the "box" has also traveled 80K miles.

I don't know about Thor so I won't comment! I owned a Fleetwood in the 90's and it was nothing but trouble! But, I have to admit Fleetwood's service made everything right. It got to the point were I was afraid to take it out! Traded it on a Winnebago (our 2nd Winnebago) and very few problems since. Keep in mind you can get a bad coach any brand there called lemons!

Gas vs diesel aside, it seems the RV industry has a spotty quality / reliability history. I think we consumers set ourselves up for this by failing to look critically at the most complicated product any of us will ever buy. It seems obvious but we're buying a heavy-duty chassis that has to carry a house. We wander in having owned both cars and houses and think ourselves capable of assessing the combination. But in the end, we base our purchase on emotion.

We just bought our new Thor A.C.E. 29.2 and have take a few small excursions in it and we love it. We're in WV so it's very steep and hilly, but it pulls up fine with the v-10. I can cruise at 70mph holding the wheel with one hand most of the time - a dream to drive and very easy to handle in traffic. Love the floor plan for just the wife, me and our puppy named 'Matthew.' It's not a high-end model, but nor did I pay a high-end price. The looks of it are sharp too with the full body paint. Love it and the wife loves it even more - so good to go!
That being said, is anyone having problems with their Thor ACE?
