Good morning all!

I have a 2001 Winnie Minnie with a Onan 4KY micro quiet genset. I have had trouble with it surging and stalling after 10 minutes of run time. I've replaced the fuel pump, checked the fuel supply line and it's been suggested that I replace the carb (from lack Of use; varnishing up) My question:

Can I replace the carb on the genset without dropping the genset from the bottom of the m/h? I really don't want to remove it, it weighs a lot to try and get it back Into the m/h. I bought the carb and have it. Are there an tricks or special things I need to do to install?

Thanks in advance,

Mark

Sorry, I am not qualified to answer your specific question. I was interested in your carb problem and wondered if you had used a fuel stabalizer? The E 10 fuel is causing many folks problems.

Before anything else, if you have not, try "Sea Foam" additive. You can get it at a lot of auto part dealers like Advanced Autoparts, etc. It just goes in the fuel tank. It will not hurt your main motor if in MH, etc. Mix it a little stronger than suggested on directions. It will normally clear up a problem like this.

I use it in my MH, lawn mower, boats, jetskis, etc..

Insure you have the correct carb and both gaskets.
Install new gaskets on new carb with light coating of silicone gasket sealer to hold them in position.

Disconnect battery cable from start solenoid and tape up.
Remove air filter and fuel line (plug with 1/4" drill bit)
Remove both wires from fuel solenoid on bottom of carb bowl
(forceps type clamping pliers needed for reconnection of red wire)
Remove two bolts from inside air filter
Place fairly large screwdriver in air filter bracket, pry and hold bracket to left side. This compresses a foam "gasket".
Observing both butterfly valves on carb, gently pull straight out and twist bottom toward you. (This may take two people)
Disengage both choke and throttle rods and tension spring. (make sure you know which is which during reassembly.

Reengage choke and throttle rods and tension spring.
Insure positions are identical to that on removal or the choke won't work.
Pry air filter adapter to left and gently reinstall carb.
Watch butterfly valves during install.
Reinstall bolts through air filter bracket and tighten to 10-12 ft lbs. (Don't forget the washers)
Reinstall wires on elec fuel solenoid. Place star washer between wire end and frame of unit to insure good ground.
Reinstall air filter and fuel line.
Reconnect battery cable to start solenoid.
Bow three times toward Fridley, Minnesota (ONAN Hq) and hit the off button to prime it and then the start button

Have fun

Thank you to those of you that have responded to this posting. Yes, I have used Sea Foam and Yes, I have taken off the fuel line and run it out of another container of fuel with Sea Foam...done it all (I believe), just needed to know whether or not genset needed to come out of carriage in m/h to replace the carb. Thank you Generator Jim, I think you've answered my question. I'll be giving it a try in the next couple of days. I'll scream for help if I get stuck. I love this forum!

Let me add one suggestion.... take a bunch of digital close-up photos, especially of the linkage, before starting.

My 4ky Onan carb got fouled because of lack of use. Took it off and let it soak in lacquer thinner for 48 hours. Runs fine now.

Thank you for the suggestions. I will post the results. Just need a few days for the rain to stop here in New England before I start.
