I am thinking of buying a portable tote tank for camping when we don't have sewage connection at the site. I purchased a used 2005 KZ Frontier 2505. I don't know how large my tanks are and I cannot find anything on KZ's website about my camper.

Does anyone have an idea? Maybe you've owned this camper model in the past or current own it.

I am trying to decide how large of a tank to buy. Trying to see if I can get one take that can hold both tanks or if I'll have to make two trips.

Thanks for any help you are able to provide.

How long are your outings? How many people?

I have the 30 gallon 2-wheel tote along. I chose it due to size, design, reputation, and price point. I froogle.com searched to find one on sale.

The nice thing about the 2-wheel design is the hollow extension handle. It makes an easy method for mounting on the back of the camper.

As to tanks....

First...you'll never dump your black tank with the grey tank. Our black tank can get the two of us thru the entire week down in the key's... So, I can just dump it as we're pulling out to head home. The grey tank on our camper fills every two days.

With grey...you could connect your tank...and put the little bobber fill indicator on the tank...leave the grey handle open...and occaisionly give the bobber indicator a glance to see if it's time to go to the dump with the grey water. Or you could just count showers...every 3rd or 4th shower...go to the dump with the grey water.

If I am inclinded to dump black (NOTE: some campgrounds forbid tote tanks with black tank contents...only grey water allowed) I would make a run with black...and then make a second run with grey. The grey would help to rinse the tank out with soapy water. Then...I always to a fresh water rinse of the tote along before comeing back to camp.

GREY water can be transfered to the tote thru the 3" hose...OR...a section of garden hose with FEMALE fittings on both ends...and one of those Sewer caps with the HOSE thread fitting on it.

BLACK water can only be transfered to the tote thru the 3" hose...unless you use a macerator...then you could use a garden hose for that as well.

We keep all the options available. I have a 5' Rhinoflex hose extension...which I like to use. I attach it to the camper...and the tank using a double female adapter that I made. I can put the little bobber indicator on the 3/4" garden hose port on the tank to monitor fill. When I go to the dump...I use the 5" Rhinoflex hose and a Valtera 90 degree sewer pipe adapter. It makes for a no mess transfer. I spray fresh water into the 3/4" fitting on the tank...swirl it around...and dump it out the 3" fitting to rinse.

It's really a matter of choice. Some people love to walk their tanks to the dump...so they get the 4-wheeled models. I just didn't want to try to store one of those...and they are a bit more expensive to say the least.

You will have to make two trips. Any tote tank that will hold enough for even two small RV holding tanks will be too heavy to move around. I have a 22 gallon Barker blue tote and it is the largest I would want to try to move. I even have put the large, inflatable wheels/tires on it to make it easier and quieter to move around. Yes, it gets towed to the dump by the truck BUT you have to move it from the trailer position to the truck. Sometimes, that is quite difficult and may be slightly uphill or in soft sand or grass. This is when the larger, heavier dump tanks can be too much. Personally, I would not get one larger than 25-30 gallons.

My advice is not to get ahead of yourself.
Use your new rig a time or two and see how it goes with you own situation and style of camping..then, you will have a better idea of what will work best for you.

Most of us have come to realize that you can't plan everything and get it all "just so" before you get out there and get your own experience.

We are still making adjustments and changes and we have been at this a long time.

I have a 25 gallon Blue Boy 4 wheel type and it works out fine, my waste tanks are 40 gallons but I empty before they get full. Anything larger than 25 gallons is pretty big and takes up too much storage space IMHO.

When possible, take showers at the campground shower house and you won't have to dump. When not possible, a quick navy shower (wet/soap/rinse) with water turned off between steps, saves a lot of water and prevents us (3 of us) from having to dump unless we are staying for 6 or more days. If we are staying that long, I generally try to find a campground with hookups/sewer on the site.

One other trick is some people have modded their plumbing to be able to pump some water from their gray tanks to their black tank since it fills much more slowly and needs to be filled up prior to dumping for best results anyway. If filling the gray tanks capasity was a continual problem for me, that is a mod I would look at.
