We bought the Magellan 1700LM (Lifetime Maps) which has the advantage of accepting an SD card. Then we got the "Co-Pilot" SD card from Amazon (for about $70). The Co-Pilot is much more configurable than the Magellan as far as "big rigs" are concerned (we have DP) and my original concern was being routed along inappropriate roads (which the Magellan tried to do).

The SD card replaces all the Magellan features including maps, places of interest, etc. but can be set up for specific routes, etc. more easily.

For under $200 we got what is essentially two GPS units... one of which is quite configurable for larger motor homes and 5th wheels. The screen is excellent. And no ads on the Magellan side because no traffic info.

Both units from Magellan.

Was the internal battery maybe dead. If you really like the unit, I check that first.

I got Rand McNally RVND 710 and have got it all set up for several trips. Have not used it yet but like the features and POIs. It found campgrounds in multiple states right away. Now if it would just stop raining so we can go somewhere!

I also went with Rand Mcnally RVND 7710, but I just got it yesterday. I like the way you can set it to your RV requirements. I haven't had a chance to really use it on the road. It's really big compared to what I'm used to so it will be strictly for the RV. I also sent off for the Sun Shield because it might be difficult to see with sun on it. The one bad detail. I'm hoping that in the RV, it will not be an issue.

All of the RV or Truck GPS units fall short in one place or another. For the features that I want, I would have to buy three and still use a couple PC programs. I'm waiting until next year ... hoping they get the bugs worked out and improve the current models or come out with new ones. From what I have read, the Garmin DEZL 560 does have a RV option. I can't verify it does until I get a chance to look at one.

I don't trust GPS units completely either. I have Motion X on my iPad $2.99 and AllStays RV and Truck Stops which are free. DW can check those while we are driving to be sure we are on the right track.

rvnd 5510. Very happy with it. Has any POI you ever want. The POI icons are that of the company's (Exxon for example is an Exxon logo, Sheetz a Sheetz logo, etc). Very helpful to recognize at a quick glance. You can enter all the characteristics of your coach like height, weight, length, LP, etc etc and it will route, or not route you accordingly. It's not as intuitive as other units I've used but once you get used to the menu layouts, it's pretty easy.

For now, we will stick with our iPad and hot spot. Much more flexible and powerful than any GPS.
