When I recently did this TV mod, I could not find the right kind of Velcro strapping or metal hardware locally. My fifth wheel RV has no shocks and is very rough riding. I was able to find strap supplies online from strapworks.com. They have various widths, but I went with the 2". When you buy a foot of Velcro ($.82 a foot) you get a foot of the fuzzy and a foot of the hooks. The metal hardware is called a Footman Loop and they are $1.58 each.
This company does custom work, but I just bought the pieces as I did not have the lead time. I had a local upholstery shop sew the straps for under $10. The TV strap starts by sewing a small 1" loop on one end of a piece of fuzzy strap. This loop will have one of the footman loops put in it before screwing the footman loop to the wall. Most of the strap will be this fuzzy piece but you then sew a piece of the hook strapping on the other end. The resulting strap will have both fuzzy and hook Velcro on one side and just the non-Velcro on the other side. I overlapped all sewing areas 4" and had about 12" of hook strap . You can cut a round on the end of the hook strap to make threading through the second footman loop easier. The upholstery person I used suggested nylon thread. Before taking it for sewing, I cut everything, marked it with a silver sharpie and assembled it with paper clips.
My LED TV was only 1.25" thick and I had read online where the screen could be damaged by flexing the TV long ways. For this reason I put the original horizontal strap around the face of the TV mount behind the TV to avoid horizontal flex. Then I used two vertical straps closer to the center. I cut some 4" diameter pool noodle pieces to brace the TV and limit bouncing.
The previous owner did something similar by using nylon strap with plastic buckles, no sewing required. One horizontal stap is all we use and I purchased a pair of selt belt sheepskin covers to slip over the straps and pad the edges. Our cabinet is pretty deep so I use some foam between the back wall and the set.
Ours is almost the same looking as yours, except ours is a Battery Hold Down Strap. Your whole TV Mod was a great one.
Ours also is 2 inchs wide, and has a Plastic Buckle, and the Footman Loops are also Plastic.
If I remember right, I bought ours at ACE Hardware, on the Special Sales table. If I remember right, I think I either paid .50 or .75 cents each for two of them.
They do work great for holding the LED TVs in place while Traveling. Its Simple, and Cheap. And its easy to put on and take off.
For our use, it just perfect, as we only need our two LED TV's held in place while Traveling. We just leave the Straps off when we are not Traveling, as both the Front LED TV and the Bedroom LED TV are on Articualting Arms, so we can move and adjust them for better viewing.
It sure beats a Stationary LED TV. As we never have to worry about what angle we want to view our LED TV's from. Since we can move both LED TV's, to the Right or to the Left, or Tilt the View either Up or Down also. So we are never limited to where we can see our LED TV's from, perfectly every time.
Keeep the Mods comming everyone. Good Luck. Happy Travels. Dan & Jill
