I was dewinterizing my TT today and I couldn't get the hot water heater to fire up. I noticed on the heater itself, there is an on/off swich. Not the switch instide the trailer, but a switch right on the heater itself. This had a cotter pin through it, in the off position ?
Do you guys turn that on/off everytime you use the unit? Just in the winter when it gets winterized so it doesn't run dry?
Thanks, my manual didn't relaly mention the switch.

If like mine (Surburban), the switch on the water heater is for the electric heating element. The switch inside is for propane.
In cold weather, I turn on both switches to get better recovery time on the water heater. Just make sure the electric switch is off before you drain the tank.
Try bleeding the gas lines by lighting a burner on the range first. Then try lighting the water heater.

Make sure you turn that switch back off. Only turn it on when you know there is water in the tank and you want to heat it with electricity. If the tank is empty it will destroy the heating element is less than a minute. Some put the cotter pin in to make sure it can't be flipped on accidentally. I just took delivery of a new Surveyor and somewhere along the way the electric switch was turned on and burned up the element. I had to replace it before my first trip out.

Ok, I am slow this morning. There is a switch on the inside for WATER HEAT. There is a rocker switch on the outside on the water heater, that is a rocker style switch and it had a cotter pin in it and in the off position.

So with the rocker swtich in the off position, it will only run on propane? With it in the ON position, it will run on either gas or electric?

I dewinterized yesterday and flipped that switch to ON. I left it on overnight. I drained the main water tank, but not the water heater. The trailer was also plugged in but the inside WATER HEAT switch was OFF.

Am I ok? Should I just keep the rocker switch on the heater OFF when not using the TT?

I always leave both rocker switches off until I get plugged in at an RV park.

Ok, once i flipped the switch on the outside heater - it fired right up and I wasn't connected to electric.

Did you get hot water?
Leave the outside switch off unless the tank is full and you are heating water.

I think all are a little different. I have the switch on the heater fior the electric but also have a switch inside for the electric, both need to be on. I have a second switch inside which is for the propane.
