Campgrounds seem to run between $25 on the low end and $55 on the high end. For now we (ME) want to move every 4 to 14 days. Week is Ideal per stay but we typically vary things. We can not switch to month stays right now to save cash.
OK what is the right price for a camp site and where do you stay? We LIKE 50 amp, pull thru when not in a NP.
Personally I have found nice CG at $30 per night and mediocre CG with some glitz we do not need or use for $50.
I know some will call me cheap but if I do not budget I lose 20 x 365 or over $7k when I start full timing.
I AM NOT LOOKING FOR HOBO campgrounds in spite of recent attempts at humor on my part. Any words of wisdom or do I just need to visit lots of places and find what I like?
I know I just have to pay some times and I accept that, but I do not find PRICE of CG and my enjoyment to correlate very well.

Passport America will pay for itself the first time you use it. Also, get a copy of "Camping with the Corps" which gives all the COE campgrounds in every state. Most have electric, and a lot have full 50A hookups, usually for $20-$30. If you have the America pass, then its half price. Fumm hookups for $10 per night ain't bad.

Frankly, if you want to save money, look at stays by the week rather than daily. Although we do have Passport America, GS and KOA, all which have paid for themselves in our first 30 days, our best strategy has been going longer terms and finding locations which have plenty of activities nearby.

I agree the 1 week discount works well at most places.
GS and even KOA make sense to me but pass port America seems to complicated with me jumping through hoops to comply.
I will look at COE CGs more carefully, but I am more interested in my destination than total savings.
Would like to go where I want and save a little than go elsewhere and save a lot.
We have Passport, members of the Moose, Elks, stay at Federal Parks using the golden access, we also stay at fair grounds. On travel days, we stop at Wal-marts, truck stops, etc., for overnights. It works for us.
Some times small towns are the best places to stay. Free or minimal charges for electric--and sometimes even full hook ups just for visiting the community.
We, like you, enjoy staying at full hookup campgrounds. Yes, we do stay at State Parks, COE and the like but usually you'll find us with 50amp FHU....that said, I haven't found too many CG for less than $25/night. In fact, if you go to RVPARKREVIEWS.com you'll not find many for less than that. We do have Thousand Trails, GS, PA, RPI, Elks and KOA which all pay for themselves if you use them regularly. We also like to move after about four days. We drive about 3 hrs then set up camp. From there we use the toad to do our "tourist" thingy. Most everything can be seen in four days, but there are exceptions. Mt. Rushmore, Yellowstone, Grand Tetons, Washington D.C. come to mind....Consider all your options when looking at an area. Many people use Woodalls and similar publications to search for facilities. By doing so, many very nice (and inexpensive) campgrounds are missed. Many County CGs are reasonably priced although hard to find. Fairgrounds are another place that have FHU. Race tracks also have FHU available when no race is happening. ELKs lodges have some very nice CGs too. Remember the COE parks although they are a devil to locate. In order to get the geezer discount the park has to be MANAGED by the Army Corps of Engineers. Many States have taken over the management of the COE campgrounds and will not honor the Golden Age passes. Google is your friend, the search can be exciting or tedious..it's all up to you..good luck....Dennis

We are just discovering State Park campgrounds and are pleased with what we have found. Prices and quality have been exceptional.
