On the Tomzap.com forum , someone says that today is just a Gringo Holiday promoted heavily by breweries and pubs! Who makes Corona NOB?
David Letterman always does a number about it but he is targeting the 25 percent Hispanic population of USA and obviously in his audience group.
So how did you celibrate 5/5? I did it in RV style, we have an annual Flea Market advertised throughout Victoria each spring and I tried to flog my Roadmaster Sterling Tow Bar, and Base plate from my old towed that got written off due to an underdash fire just short of Camping World Portland! I got a nibble from a guy in our park!

As you said, it is a gringo holiday. No celebrations here in Monterrey. We had a huge storm last night so I cleaned the pool, picked up all the downed tree limbs, went to the gym, supermarket, came home and finished working on the pool.

We are getting ready for a three week trip, not sure if it will be the Texas coast or Veracruz (boondocking). Leaving on Wednesday through the end of the month. Just came back from SMA on a ten day trip with family from Idaho. Lots of fun. A real learning experience for family. They can't wait to come back.

Funny, when this thread first started I commented to my SO who replied with the same answer.

Interesting. An acquaintance brought it up over a few beers this afternoon, according to him it is a big deal in Mexico.

www.huffingtonpost.com ITS amazing how some people consider themselves historians to put out such a insulting article on 5 de mayo undermining the victory of the mexican army i dont see anywhere charter flights to mexico to celebrate the mexicans dont need an excuse to drink the event is celebrated big in the usa because of the large mexican population such celebration benefits the US economy i have read many articles by CARLOS HARRISON OF THE HUFFINGTON POST i will keep my opinion of him to myself go online google the battle of puebla see for yourself most americans think its the independance of mexico

Cinco de Mayo is a celebration of Mexico's victory over the French at Puebla.

France has never been the same. They've never gotten over the embarrassment.

This was on the JaltembaJalapeno forum today. I have no idea whether it's factual or not, there are no links or quotes to any sources. BTW, I believe it is celebrated in Puebla.

Cinco de Mayo is celebrated in a fairly big way in the city of Puebla, where the battle occurred. For the most part, in the rest of Mexico it's not a big deal.

I kept an eye on the news yesterday and today. Not even a mention. When I lived in Texas though, you would have thought it was a national holiday. More about beer and sausage on a stick and turkey legs than anything else. Oh, and Tejano music.
