And the selection is done by a group of magazine editors and writers with zero experience in all but a narrow segment of the business.
It is a bit of a joke, isn't it?
Why... I should have submitted a triple expansion engine for consideration.
Then maybe you should, but they got it spot on with the 7.3 in the middle of the pack, but then I must be biased because I own one, but then deep down you are sold on the 6.0 , but the 6.0 is a bit of joke in some circles. So who knows who's got the joke on who.
Marketing 101 teaches that not all customer needs are the same, and different strokes for different folks is the name of the game.
They did such a broad swath that they are comparing Apples and Lug Nuts.
No doubt the 7.3 worked for you, and no doubt many engines worked well for many people no matter what the larger public things.
And no doubt many well reputed engines are lemons for some users.
That is why I keep reminding people that the differences --- and individual needs and specifics of the sample concerned, overpower the general in any of the major branded and high volume products.
As you likely haven't worked on many GM HD 6.6L Duramax pickups which is not a surprise at all because there has been so few problems with the Durtamax/Allison combo and because the Oshawa, Ontario, Canada GM truck assembly plant has NOT built GM HD's for years now, 2008 was the last. ALL GM HD pickups, gas or diesel, are built in the USA with the 6.6 Duramax diesel powered HD all being built at Flint, MI.
I didn't think Oshawa EVER built HDs.
My recollection is that Flint and Pontiac East (both in MI) were the only plants that built them.
Easy to check. First digit of the VIN is country of manufacture....
1 = US
2 = Canada
3 = Mexico

Ah man I love the 71 series Detroits. I used to run heavy equipment and it was an awesome rush to run those big scrapers down the road from one job to the next. Wide open throttle on a 4-71. And you get yourself a v6-71 and run it till it blows. After that jerk the blower off and drop it on your 350 chevy. That's called recycling.
As you are retired from GM engineering you sure also know!
You are right that Oshawa never built a GM HD with a Duramax/Allison. As I had stated, ALL GM HD pickups with a Duramax are and were built only at Flint, MI.
Now you know how totally wrong the member who claims he works on GM HD's with a Duramax that have an "Assembled at Oshawa, Ontario" sticker on them. Never happened!
Can you say he's just a "troll"?

Isuzu has been around since 1916 and Cummins didn't even start until 1919. Isuzu is world wide with their diesel engines, mostly in countries outside the USA and it's so humorous to see all the posts from members exclaiming how they would love to have those "very efficient" diesels the rest of the world drives with!

Still not correct.
Both my '05 and current '11 Short bet ext. cabs where built at the Fort Wayne plant. (both where Duramax equiped)
Most of the new crew cabs are assembled in Mexico.

your right haven't worked on many mostly because i don't choose to work on alot of newer trucks other than to pull and replace transmissions and transfercases and the newest d-max i've worked on is an 06 so could be why they all said assembled in cananda on them and as it is I'm getting ready to put the third t-case in a year in one, this time is in the 06 and just put t-case and allison in one yesterday

Something that people don't want to hear.
Marketing 101 teaches, or should teach dependability , and that is why 7.3 is on the list, yes there are lemons in everything, and what it boils down to is how many lemons, and without argument the 6.0 is producing more lemonade than most.

Maybe you're doing it wrong?
i should have said getting to put a t-case in third truck in a year..
the tech that repaired the last t-case and rebuilt the trans said they are seeing problems with the tailshaft bushing moving into the case and causing failure... such as the chain pounding it's way out the top of case, which was problem on last two trucks the trans was the owner wanting to be sure was no damage and to up grade to after market converter
