My truck is a 2008 Chevy crew cab. MY 5th wheel is about 12K when traveling. If it's not too hot, I can go up at pretty much any speed I want. However, there's no reason to do that. I usually travel on flat land about 62 or so and then on grades I usually drop to 55 or so, the engine temp/trans temp being the controlling factor. 2008 Chevy has a 6 speed and I believe the 2003 is a 5 speed. In any case, keep your rpms up to 2200 (more or less) when pulling a grade. Engine will run a little cooler and so will your transmission.

You will be able to maintain the towing speed limit with a 11 or 12K fiver on normal 6% highway grades. Just don't push your foot through the firewall or you will get the temperature up unnecessary to do the job.

3.73 my understanding is 3.73 is the only ratio you get from the factory for those years.

All duramax came with 3.73.
The 03's were the least powerful duramax's, but you should still be about 50 on a 6% uphill.
The frontal area (wind drag) of the trailer will determine if you are in the mid 40's, or high 50's.
