I always do my own oil changes ,all info online states 62 ft lbs for torque.. I have used a torque wrench every oil change.Yesterday my drain plug was stripped and would not tighten..My truck is at Chevrolet getting the oil pan replaced. I highly recomend not going 62 on yours. I hope this saves. Someone some trouble.

I sympathise...I have never owned/used a torque wrench...I think I am worried about doing what ya did!

I don't know if you're using a 'clicker or dial' type torque wrench. If it's a clicker, do you turn the setting back to zero after each use. Not doing so will, in time, give you false readings.

Howdy!
X2 on the Fumoto Valve. I've had one on our C5500 Chevorlet Kodiak form the first oil change. Never been a problem and makes for easy oil changes.

I own torque wrenches but never used them on an oil drain plug.
I suspect the easiest fix would be to drill out the bolt hole and re-tap for a larger drain plug.

62 ft lbs seems like a lot for a drain plug, maybe in an aluminum pan that has some thickness. I never have used a torque wrench for that anyway. But my career was as a mechanic so I developed the "feel" of how tight the plug should be. Never lost one either.

X4. The Cummins is known for stripping also. Plus getting a sample between changes is a breeze.
