62 ft lbs seems like a lot for a drain plug, maybe in an aluminum pan that has some thickness. I never have used a torque wrench for that anyway. But my career was as a mechanic so I developed the "feel" of how tight the plug should be. Never lost one either.

Ditto...seems way too much for a drain plug and more like a small
car's lug nut torque, IMHO

What does the shop manual (not glove box manual) say?

I use a 12" ratchet, tighten it till it stops, then hit the end of the ratchet with my hand till it moves about a quarter to half an inch. Never had a leak, or anything else.

Specs found here say 18 ft lbs for oil drain plug. I can't imagine any need to crank 62 lbs on a drain plug!

On edit, The list I linked to are for 2011-2012 trucks. I see the torque specs under the 06-07 trucks on that site do show 62 lbs, but I suspect it must be a misprint. Maybe it should have been 26 lbs?

That 62 lbs. looks way too much....my old bucket has a 22mm steel drain plug in a steel pan and only calls for 40 lbs on the plug.

All of the other drain plug specs say 26 or 27. I'm betting it's a misprint in the manual. Maybe GM owes you an oil pan.
I'm glad I never bother to break out the torque wrench for that bolt. I don't want to get it dirty. I just make it tight. It's been fine for 7 years so far.

Clear head should prevail that 62 is way too much for a drain plug.
You would need a grade 5 nut on the other side for that torque.
