Just bought a 95 6.5 suburban with 513,000 miles. I paid 1,500 for it and drove it home 220 miles to my house with my wife following me in our 07 ltz. The truck does not leak a thing and cruised along at 68 with cruise on no problem. I have already done a bunch of body work to it, and my question is which pmd cooler should I put on it?? It does not have one and I know I should put one on. When I had a 98 I knew of heath diesel selling them, but now they are all over ebay for 150-300. Any suggestions???

I got mine from Pensacola Diesel. Mine is the black flight systems manufacture but some say the gray Stanadyne are better and last longer.

Some good info and reading on the 6.5TD here

Gotta love those 6.5's. We had one in a 97 2500 and it really was a good engine and truck! It's strength was it's fuel economy.

A buddy of mine had a '94 Chevy K1500 with a 6.5L TD that would give 24 mpg highway empty.

Now that the motor is broken in, you can do some fun things with it.

I don't remember which one, but one of those big companies offer a lifetime warranty on it. It relocates it up around the grill.

I would get that one.

I heard the new "good" PMD's are bulletproof. True or not I have no idea.

I would not buy anything like that off of Ebay; it's too risky for me but that's me. There is a lot of junk out there. It's kinda like buying a good lightly used set of connecting rods off of Ebay.

My 6.5 is still brand new with 160K on it.

I'm glad some people are happy with the 6.5. I baby sat a fleet of light and medium duty trucks for a logging company, had no end of grief with that engine. GM actually extended the warranty to placate dissatisfied owners.

I have no idea if this is a rebuilt or new, or just new pieces parts, all I know is that it runs great and gets awesome mpg. And 1500 bucks didnt set me back too much . Sure beats a 650 a month car payment. Anyway I am looking forward to this truck. I had a 94 and a 98 in the past and have a soft spot for these rigs. I tried a 2000 excursion 7.3 and the truck towed good but was a dog running around town. These burbs with 6.5 just handle good to me. Short on hp but good on torque.

A 7.3 PSD in an Excursion didn't have enough power to run around town so you bought a 6.5 non-turbo diesel in a Suburban instead???
