Good Morning, Our awning rolls up crooked to the point it won't latch at the top. I have to get on a ladder and push(quite hard) to get it to latch. It has never done this before. Any help or ideas? Thanks

Weak or broken spring on the "sluggish" end comes to mind.

I had an electric awning on my previous trailer that had a similar problem. What caused the problem was that the awning material had moved on the rail and caused the fabric to roll up and a little crooked and the supports would not align correctly.

Roll out your awning and check to make sure it is centered on the rails. On yours, one end or the other has shifted. Simply slide the off center end back to the middle. On some awnings a small screw placed on either end of the rail will stop it from shifting.

Be careful with the pushing. It does not take much to bend the aluminum supports. Once they are bent, there is nothing you can do to straighten them short of replacements - I know.

Might try to get on a ladder and when some one hits the switch to roll back in give a little push towards the dirrection it needs to roll back straight. I have seen and helped others for their same problem and it worked for them.

we have a manual awning. to prevent the strap from making a bump in the center of the rolled-up awning i "lead" the strap towards the front of the rv as i roll it up. this also helps align the latches at the top.

Like 'tarnold' I suspect your awning has shifted on the roller.

Fully extend the awning then look at where the edge of awning is vs the end cap on roller. The edges should be same distance on both ends.

The end that has greater distance.....hold awning material and push roller/pull awning to adjust distance. Equal distance both ends.....roll it back up.

This can happen if the strap is not centered on the roller when you retract it.

I used a marker to mark the awning and roller tube so I know where to place the strap.

On our last RV, a TT, this happened quite often and the only reason we could figure it happened was due to the length of it. The dealer said this was normal and showed us how to compensated. The awning, when down can shift slightly from right to left. If it shifted too much, that would be when it rolled up crooked and we couldn't get it to latch. So what we did was when it was down and we rolled it back up straight, we made note of where the fabric was on the drum and took a wax marker and marked it. So before we rolled up the awning, we would eye that the fabric was on this mark and when it was, it would roll up straight and latch each time. Our setup was even more sensitive to the alignment issue because we had a latch installed at the top to prevent it from unrolling going down the road.
