I made the personal decision to have both. The surge protector has saved my MH twice...once in Destin, FL and once in NOLA. We have a water filter in our stick and brick and the MH. My choice is to have one.

I am at St. Andrews State Park which is obviously on a different water system than Top Sail, but.....The water here is from the county water system and it tastes fine, but it is full of particulate matter. I have an inline two stage filter and the first filter is a 1 micron particulate filter and the second one is a charcoal filter. The first stage filter at my home base doesn't need replacing after 6-8 months. At St. Andrews is is "bad" after 2 weeks and I camp alone. Again, the water tastes fine, it is just full of particulate matter that I don't want in my fresh water tank/system.
My problem with electrical at a lot of parks is that the people doing the wiring don't always look like they should be doing wiring. You add to that the fact a lot of the park power systems are old. All you need is one problem to fry your RV. I have a good energy management system/surge protector that will shut off the power to my RV if there is a problem. Is it worth it? It is to me.

I uses both a water regulator and a surge protector. My surge protector has saveed me at least once for absolute certain and possibly twice more. The water pressure at some parks can be VERY high and for a few dollars you can easily protect yourself.
I have chosen to use both so I can rest easy. I am in the camp of spending some $$ to protect an electronic loaded MH. Only you can decide your risk comfort level. Travel safe.

If in doubt, go ahead and get them. The peace of mind is worth every penny.
By the way we use a simple Camco in-line filter and no power conditioner. I do keep a vilt meter and citcuit tester plugged in all the time.
I am in agreement with the first two statements, however, about the last one. Do you constantly sit and look at the volt meter and if it "pegs out" can you get your main breaker turned off before damage is done? I have to doubt it...just saying.

No- as soon as I saw the price I knew that this was not the one. You are protecting more than just lightening strikes - you need to protect from voltage variances etc at the outlet.
This is the one (if you have a 30 amp system - if you have a 50 amp system then there is a similar one from Progressive for 50 amps) Here is a link to the 30 amp model -

Surge Guard also makes one - again this is the link for the 30 amp unit. There is also a 50 amp unit.

Get a unit that matches the power limit of your RV - 30 amp or 50 amp. These are not cheap. Think of it as an insurance policy. You have it - you paid a lot for it - you hope that it never actually comes into use - but it is connected and keeping your electrical system safe. The cost of these is a lot less than the repair/replacement bill if you fry your electronics and wiring.
Progressive seems to have gone up quite a bit. Surge Guard costs less. Which is better? It is like chocolate and vanilla. Some will tell you one is wonderful and others will tell you the other is wonderful. And everyone has their reasons that are valid.

I use a water filter, and a Surge Protector.
Better safe than sorry.
The water at Topsail Hill State Park is ok... Just the same I buy water at the Walmart across from the 'Doughnut Hole'...
I have needed a Surge Protector exactly one time, and it worked as advertised.
I buy an new inline water filter about two times a year.
Cheap insurance.
