I'm running into something new and wonder if anybody knows anything about it. It involves campgrounds with open wifi access. At one campground I used email, accessed amazon, and accessed youtube. I then start getting bogus emails about my amazon order being cancelled and my youtube video being approved. At another campground I accessed email and usps, and started getting bogus emails about a problem with my usps shipment. I can think of 4 possibilities:

1) I have a virus that 4 different virus and malware checkers don't find.
2) The campground systems have a virus.
3) The campgrounds are harvesting and selling the information.
4) Somebody at the campground is using a wifi sniffer.

Does anybody know what's behind this?

I also have not accessed any wifi and am getting the Amazon one. I sent the email to Amazon and they let me know that they are working on it. Problem was their accounts.

Just bad timing is all.
I've had a few of those lately. They seem to go in waves, like some idiot got hold of a new toy and has to try it out.

I am currently at home, have cable company internet, Norton Anti-Virus and always make sure I am using secure connections BUT - I am getting the same Amazon order stuff. My wife uses Yahoo Mail and I use Verizon Mail and we are both getting it.

Lots of people have gotten the Amazon emails. I got 2, and haven't used any kind of unsecured network.

Run your antivirus, make sure it is up to date. Also another good free program is called malwarebytes.com. It is good at finding spyware etc.

Chances are you are OK. Best thing would be to go to another computer on a secure network, and change your passwords for those sites. Then check the suspect computer thoroughly before you use it for any sensitive info.

Go out on the Internet to the web site Abine.com. They have software called "Do Not Track Plus" that blocks all tracking from social networks, ad networks, and tracking companies. Its free. One note, it will not work with some operating systems/web browsers. I use it with Windows 7 Ultimate and IE9.
