Hi: My emerald was running 2 years ago and it appears I did not exercise it enough as during the past winter in Florida it would start normal then run rough and finally quit. I decided to fix it once I returned home, however now it turns over but won't start, it acts like it has gas but I can't see a spark. If this is so do I suspect the points or the coil and how do I determine which one is the culprit. thanks

Sounds like bad gas, but could also be the choke sticking. I had the choke problem, and it took me a while to figure it out.

Sound like a very similar problem I had about a year ago. In my case a rodent decided to make a nest insded the generator. Mine doesn't have points, instead there is a plastic rotor inside that rotates. On each end of the rotor ( it looks like a mini propeller) is a magnet that is read by a sensor. In my case this propeller caught the next and cracked at the base and threw the timing off to the point it wouldn't run. The propeller is right in the middle of where the engine mates up with the generator. It's a royal pain to relace but doable.
