I'll try again, we need help. Our eye on Slingshot GT29BH just 2 of us. The dry weight is 4527. Have added 70lbs for optional add ons, 120lbs for 2 propane tanks and 200lbs for personal effects, totallin 4920. Looking at Toyota Tundra 4.6 V8 with A tow pkg. Curb weight is 5385lbs and we would add 1315 lbs for tow hitch, us and other cargo would be 500lbs totalling 6450 lbs
Our usuage would be rt towing fm NH to Fl 1500 miles each way 2x a year. Rest of time would be parked in Driveway or Campground in Summer in New England. What do you think of tow calculations. Thanks Kevin

Too many variables. What is the trailers GVWR? What is the trucks scaled ready to travel weight? What is the trucks towing capacity?

Your figure for added cargo is very low. Most folks add 1000-1500 lbs of gear. It sounds like a lot but it is easy to do.

Also. IF that is the brochure dry weight, and not the sticker dry weight. You will need to add, at least 300lbs for how it comes off the factory floor.
IMOP. you will be right at the upper limit of a 4.7. Shouldm be OK as long as you don't want to go up any hills.

Don't forget any linen, pots and pans, silver ware, drinks, food, cleaning supplies, wheel chocks, wood, tools, sewer hoses, water hoses, and the list goes on. You will also find that as time goes on, you will add more things. ie patio mats, screen tent (if you want to help with the bugs), dishes that will stay in the TT, etc. We didn't believe it either until we pulled everything out of the TT and weighed it individually.

I tow with a '12 Tundra 4.6 with the tow pack, but my trailer is considerably smaller @ 3500 wet. The current 4.6 with tow has a curb wt of 5000 to 5550 depending on your model. The GVWR goes from 6700-7000. Mine has the maximum payload for this engine @ 1615 lb. The tow capacity goes from 7700 to 8200 (mine) with the tow pack. The 6 spd trans, 4.1 rear end w/tow pack and pretty fair torque curve at fairly low rpm make it a reasonably good little tow engine. Hey, it's not a 5.7, but some of us don't need or want a big engine. You're towing the right coast, not the left coast, so you won't be pulling quite so much at extreme elevations, and that would be a plus for you.

This should be enough info for the weight police to decide whether you would be handcuffed with your desired combo.

If your buying a tundra to tow with get the 5.7. The mileage difference is negligible empty, and might even be better towing.

X2, As Anaro says it all adds up. Cable TV stuff , television, etc. The wife and I end up with 750 lbs, and we don't take bikes. You will have not less than 700 lbs of "stuff". And by the way that all assumes you have zero fluids in any of your tanks. You will be pushing the limits.

The Brochure/Internet "dry weight" for the GT29BH is 4032#. If you have seen a trailer with a sticker stating a weight of 4527#, I think it is safe to conclude that weight includes weight of propane and factory-installed optional items. Some people report adding only 500#, so you might be able to keep the loaded weight to 5000#. A corresponding tongue weight might be 650#.

Quote:

Looking at Toyota Tundra 4.6 V8 with A tow pkg. Curb weight is 5385lbs and we would add 1315 lbs for tow hitch, us and other cargo would be 500lbs totalling 6450 lbs
I'll assume the prospective TV is a 2012 Tundra Double Cab 4x4 with:
Towing Capacity = 7900#
GVWR = 6900#
Curb Weight = 5385#
Payload = 1315#

In addition to you and other cargo, you need to add weight of optional equipment and a WDH. Let's assume the total is 700#.
You also need to add the trailer-imposed vertical load which will be equal to about 75% of tongue weight -- 650*0.75 = about 500#.
So, the total added load when towing would be about 700+500 = 1200#, which is less than the Payload

The loaded weight of the TT plus the weight of "extras" carried in/on the TV would be about 5000+700 = 5700# which is well below the towing capacity of 7900#.

Assuming the receiver's tongue weight rating is more than 650#, I see no problem with towing a trailer which weighs 5000# loaded.
If you wanted to utilize the remaining 115# of Payload capacity, you could increase the loaded weight of the TT to about 5800# -- assuming the TV's receiver is rated for at least 750# tongue weight.

It's up to you to decide how close you want to be to the TV's weight ratings.

Ron
