For you folks that are schooled on dc power I have a question for you. I plan on making me a bracket to mount my winegard carryout to my pin box. I have to plug it into 12 volt outlet somewhere. In the 7 pin plug (Plug that you plug into your truck) when uphooked from truck there is a hot wire in there and a ground Is there any reason I couldn't just get me a female 7 pin outlet and put a pigtail on it to a 12 volt outlet for use for my winegard. Thee plug is just hanging there right where I will need it.

You can do that I'd put a fuse on the power side to the antenna.

Good idea. I would suggest a fuse near the plug in case the wire gets shorted. Without a fuse it could start a fire in the grass if placed there.

12 volts is 12 volts no matter where you get it. Go for it.

Will not work on a Ford as the key has to be on for the hot wire to be activated in the 7 pin connector.

He's talking about hooking into the trailer cord. Not the truck outlet.
Truck brand is irrelevant.
