Good afternoon all,
Leaving the campground today while dumping, one of my grey tank handles just snapped into. It's the kind that has a plastic tee handle attached to a threaded aluminum rod. It broke about 10" back from the handle. Does anyone know if these can be replaced? If so, how hard is it and where do I buy a replacement handle? And to make matters worse, I have a sealed underbelly.
Thanks for the help

The aluminum rod should un-thread from the valve. As long as part of the rod is still accessible a pair of vice grips should remove it.

If the handle broke it can be replaced… if it’s the rod that broke I have never seen a replacement part for it…
Luckily it only cost a few dollars (under $10) to replace the whole valve and its so easy a caveman can do it…

Valterra sells the rod extensions in various lengths. Some use a slip over coupling with set screws to attach to the valves existing shaft.
You can download the Valterrs catalogs at their website.

Here's what I bought:

Hopefully this will do the trick. I just hope I don't have to take down any of the underbelly.

1/4-20 all thread rod cut to length will work, ugly, but it's only a drain handle.

On mine the rod doesn’t unscrew from the blade, it turns but doesn’t unscrew…
I assume that is the reason they don’t list it as a replacement part…
If the rod on his broke there isn’t much chance there’s enough left for the extension to hook to…
The best and maybe the only fix, is replacement of the valve… 2 or 3 trips to the hardware and RV store cost more than replacing the valve that only cost around 7 or 8 bucks to begin with… the extension if he gets it connected cost almost as much as the valve and has the propensity to pull/fall apart…

Exactly what I did only I covered the threaded rod with some electrical shrink tubing so that none of the threads would rub against the underbelly material. Put some Lock-Tite on the threads and the handle for added assurance. Works perfectly!

Believe it or not my fix was extremely simple. My rod was a two piece threaded rod. It broke about 1/2" before the threads. I took the rod out and re-threaded it and put it back on.
