I am interested in finding out how you all insure your trailers. My insurance agent is charging a lot for a stand alone policy on my Jayco. Supposedly I could attach a rider on my truck policy that would cover the trailer when we are towing. However, we store our trailer in a storage lot and I want it insured all the time. I remember that my car insurance company wanted to charge a huge amount to cover my motorhome, when I had it and assume there are companies out there that specialized in RV's that would be more reasonable.

I thought my stand alone coverage was reasonable from State Farm which also insures my vehicles and home. I have heard some people mention issues of which company was covering what when using multiple companies. I have elected to avoid that situation. Doesn't matter if it's hooked up or not, same folks got it.

X2. State Farm has all of my policies. A little over 1300 dollars a year for two vehicles and the fiver, plus a rider for jewlery on home owners.

I insure my trailers through Progressive separately from my vehicles which I insure through USAA.
Here are my policies for the two trailers:
2010 Jayco Jay series 1207 Pop-up, full coverage $177/yr ($250 deductible)
2009 KZ Spree 289KS full coverage, $405/yr ($1000 deductible)
Total premium for both RV's $582/yr
2008 Suburban 2500 LT 4x4
2009 KZ Spree 289KS

Your liability is covered by your truck when hitched up. I use The Hartford thru AARP for both my truck and TT. TT is under $100 per year for a $250 deductable. I have $500 deductable on my truck and both cost me about $1100.00 per year. Changed from Liberty Mutual and saved right $400.00 per and the previous TT insurance cost me about $290.00 per.

Seems like most insurance companies cover the TT liability under the tow vehicle. The only problem I could see and I wouldn't be concerned. If you parked your TT on a steep hill, didn't put blocks under the wheels when it was parked and it rolled into another vehicle.

If you want to sleep at night, get a stand alone policy! I had a fire in my previous Motor Home & have been through the loss process. This company (agency) specializing in RV insurance & stood by me 100 percent.

I do all my insurance through State Farm. I get a discount by keeping all my insurance in one place. I have had the same State Farm Agent for over 20 years.
