Hello,

We camp in our 5vr with 3 cats. I put sheets on the chairs and sofa but they manage to poke holes thru the sheet. All 3 are front declawed but they still have back claws that I keep trimmed. I tried finding an answer in the search engine here but unable to find anything. How do ya'll cover your furniture? I'd like to find slip covers as they would look better but are they heavier material ones out there?

Cover it with dogs, then the claws won't get through... That's how it works in my house.

Under the dogs I tend to use a quilt from the thrift store.

I made slip covers out of sunbrella, it is water proof and durable. We travel with two cats and a dog

I bought polarfleece fabric - in MY case, I'm just protecting from doghair and dirt; and polarfleece washes easily. But it's kind of thick - maybe the cats' toenails wouldn't pierce through the thicker fabric?

I made slipcovers out of heavy denim. They were a bit of a trick to make but not impossible. I really like the result. I had them on our house furniture for YEARS (14 or 15) and we had cats during that time, as well as dogs. The furniture underneath looked brand new (not that that was the aim!). They were of course washable. So of course I made a set for the camper!

Thank you all for the suggestions. I love the denim idea and fleece. Now to go shopping

My three cats are not de-clawed. We cover the sofa and dinette seats and backs with medium weight blankets from Wal*Mart. They cost about $10 each. Easy to wash and no claw marks show. We do supply them with a cat-condo from Petco for their clawing pleasure.

Also, I believe the polarfleece doesn't have to be hemmed, another plus. It doesn't unravel like some fabrics.

I got a very nice, quilted day bed cover. It fits the sofa in our MH perfectly. We use it to keep dog hair and dirt from their feet off the sofa, but it would probably work for the cat's claws, as it is pretty thick, compared to fleece or fabric.
