We are planning a trip north in a couple of weeks and need a quick overnight stop near Groton, CT. Looking for a Walmart that allows overnighting with easy on and off RT 95 heading north.

I checked my Allstays iPhone app and found these:

155 Waterford Parkway no
Waterford, CT 6385

150 Gold Star Hwy
Groton CT 6340

655 Boston Post Rd
Old Saybrook, CT
6475

I intend to call these three but would appreciate any personal experience with any listed or others in the area? Looking for an safe/RV friendly spot to stay for a few hours.

Thanks.

Here is the Official Walmart Web site where they list the Stores that DO NOT ALLOW overnight parking.

http://www.walmartatlas.com/no-park-walmarts

My experience is go in and ask the manager and buy something and they may do an exception.

Thanks Gearitis,

I have all that info. I'm looking for 1st hand experience with that area. You know, "stay clear of the crazy old lady at the south end of the lot", etc ha ha.

No matter how many responses or apps that state it's okay to stay overnight, nothing trumps going inside and asking management for permission.

Your only real hope is to find 3 RV members from this board using a computer and air card, sitting in the parking lots of all three stores on or about the day of your arrival.

With the traffic at Walmart, recon is ever changing and security is relative. Depending on it's locale, a store's traffic can change flavor drastically from day to night.

Since everyone's comfort level is different, Gearitis' advice is appropriate. Personally, I'd call customer service at the three stores and check on permission. I would also allow myself enough time to safely choose (eyeball) a spot to rest, just in case I had to keep looking. Who knows... "the crazy old lady at the south end of the lot" may have just arrived at the store you've preselected to over-night in. Travel safe.

The Old Saybrook Wal Mart is the furtest from the highway. The Waterford one is one the opposite side of the Highway but there is a weigh station that's never open, on your side. The Groton one is actually on rt. 184. I see MH all the time at the Waterford Wal-Mart, do you know how to get to the other side of the highway?

Thank you. The Waterford one looks like an easy on off from Rt 95 North from a check of Google Maps. I'll give them a call to double check. Since you say you've seen MH's there before, sounds promising.

What type of area is the Waterford store in? Suburban, city, middle of nowhere?

Thanks to others for the Foxwoods recommendation. I may try that on the way home. I don't want to add an extra 16 miles to the stop over location on the way.
