Looking for routing suggestions between Rehobeth Beach, De and Myrtle Beach Sc. I'll be driving a 40 ft DP with a jeep wrangler toad and need to avoid tunnels in/around Norfolk,Va. Thanks

May I ask why no tunnels? I would take 26 over to 113 down to 13 across the Cheasapeak to Norfolk.

I am under the impression that other than the Chesapeake Bridge Tunnel, the tunnels in/arround the Norfolk area do NOT allow propane.

You only have three ways out of Delaware -- North to i-95 then go south, west to the bay bridge by Annapolis then either Rt. 50 to I-95 outside Washington or south on Rt. 301, or south on Rts. 113-13 to the Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel. The tunnels on the bridge aren't as bad as they look. Toll is about $29. You then go south or west out of the Virginia Beach area and avoid either Hampton Roads tunnels. I would skip the first option and take either of the other two. Check out toll rates for the bridge near Annapolis. I would also avoid going through the Washington area and instead go south on 301. But that entails another toll bridge. Again, check the toll rate. Depends on how much you want to pay and how much traffic you want to deal with.

The only tunnels in the mid-Atlatic that I am aware you can't drive through with propane tanks are the ones in Baltimore. The Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel allows propane tanks, you just have to have them closed. The other tunnels in the Norfolk area also allow propane tanks but you have to have them closed and also stop for inspection.

Get on Rt 113 S to Rt 13 S, cross the CBBT, continue to Rt13 S to Rt 64 E (Hampton Roads Beltway) Continue on the beltway past Chesapeake exits where you can pick up Rt 58 West. You do not have to go thru any other tunnel this way. Continue taking 58 to Emporia and pick up Rt 95 South... You can also take 17 south which is a stress free, slower pace ride, but check on road construction. We are from the Rehoboth/ Dewey area and found this route to be the easiest for us.

CBBT & tunnels in Norfolk _do_ allow propane, or did two years ago. It just has to be off. It's Baltimore that requires a detour off I-95.

We just came north from Myrtle Beach on that route three weeks ago with a stop over in Virginia Beach. We were there when the F 18 fell out of the sky into the apartment building. Bridges and tunnels were fine. They just ask that your propane tank is closed. As far as I am concerned it was the only way to go and a beautiful route.

I would go with Weathershak's suggestion. Done that route a few times coming from MB to Cherrystone or vice versa and once from Rehoboth.
