I have a 2012 xlr 35x12 and have been camping in it for about 6 weeks now. I have had the electric water heater turned on and has been working fine. All of a sudden it has only been making lukewarm water. Any ideas what the problem could be? Thanks

Electric element has shorted out. Switch to gas and report back.

Lukewarm? If the electric element had failed, your water would be the same temperature as the cold water. You may have inadvertently opened the winterizing valve which mixes cold with the hot water.

That was as of last night. It felt a little cooler this morning as maybe if it was cooling off. I haven't messed with the valves any. I'll mess with it as soon as I get back to the rig later today.

GFI plug was tripped in the bathroom. Didn't think the electric water heater would be hooked into it but easy fix.

Well it worked for a day and the water was hot and now it's not working again. Gfi plus isn't tripped this time and all breakers and fuses are good. Any suggestions now?

Does the water heater operate on gas? If it does, you probably have a bad electric element. It probably caused the GFCI to trip when it was failing. then it finally opened up altogether.

If it will not operate on gas or electric, disconnect and reconnect the control board connector a few times to clean the contacts. This may help.

It works on gas. I guess the element has burnt up already. I've only used it for about 6 weeks.

You need to be certain that the tank is filled with water before you turn on the electric element. Turning it on with the tank empty will burn it out in minutes.
