Hi all:

This summer we will be passing thru from Northern IL up to Pepin, WI. I will need to make a overnight stop someplace in between.

Suggested campgrounds, local sights/things to see?

Many thanks in advance.

Doug

Route driving through Il to Wi would help.

I'm not sure without knowing what roads you will take or if you are willing to go out of your way to view special things.
Google these:

Devil's Lake is always a favorite, but it may be hard to get a campsite without a reservation.

If you are going on I90-94 stop at Wisconsin Dells lots to see and then stay at Country Roads RV Park a very nice palace.

I agree that the Dells is a fun place. We just came home from one of the indoor waterparks there. The place is starting to come alive, but if you are going after Memorial Day--check ahead for a campsite as it gets very busy. Baraboo has the circus train and circus.

Stop in Baraboo at Fox Hill RV Park. It is a PA park. Nice place to stay and reasonably priced. Then visit the Circus World Museum in Baraboo. Whole family will enjoy it. Also along with museum have a circus program that is real good. Of course the Dells offers plenty to do. Best to spend about 3-4 days in the area. Water parks, duck boat trips on the river. Enjoy, our grandkids did. Ages 9, 7,4 and before that 8 yo twin boys.

When you are on I-39, you will pass through Rock Cut State Park in Loves Park Illinois, just before you get to the Cheddar Curtain (IL/WI line).

Exit from I-39 at IL 173 and go West 1/4 mile to the park entrance.

Camping with electric only is $25/night.

There is a BRAND NEW "2 holer" dump station. When I left there a few days ago, I was the first one to us it.

To see it on your Google map, zoom in, pan as necessary and switch to 'satellite view'.

The campground is frequently full on weekends during racing season; it is less than 1/2 mile from the Rockford Speedway.

Thanks all for the advice all. This is great info!

I think I need to keep as close to the border as possible so Rock Cut state park might be the winner....if we can get in.

We would pull in, set up, let the kids stretch their legs, and then head out again in the morning for Pepin, WI area.

The Dells sound like a great place to spend a few days...but maybe we'll hit that on the way back!
