The service guys are great. The sales guys - not so much. We had the Tundra on site the day we looked at the trailer. CW installed the hitch. They were very well aware of what we planned on hauling the TT with. And of course - They said we could haul it no issues.

Yeah it's a shame you can't trust so many of the sales guys.

Just last Saturday I stopped at a little dealership because my brother is looking for a TT. I was looking at a specific trailer and asked the salesman for the specs on the trailer because it might be too much for my brother's vehicle. He asked what type of vehicle he had and I told him he had a Yukon Denali (Suburban size) and the salesman responded that his Denali "could tow a 10,000 lb. trailer with no problem"..

I laughed and told him I wouldn't tow a 10,000 lb travel trailer with my F350 diesel....and left.

Is it that they are just ignorant of the actual capabilities of trucks or are they knowingly selling TT's and 5'ers that are beyond the capabilities of a persons truck. Can there be so many sales folks at so many dealerships who really don't know......seems a stretch.....I'd suggest that many, if not most are operating on the "caveat emptor" school of salesmanship.

I think they just want to make a sale and a commission.

I'm a newbie as well and when I was looking, all the sales people said, OH yeah your 2005 GMC Sierra Denali can totally tow that TT. Once I started doing my research I realized that NO it cannot!

I started looking to upgrade the truck, then thought to myself, I don't want a small TT. I actually want a big 5th wheel... and so we upgraded BOTH.

I hate to say it, but you cannot trust most sleaze people, oh mean sales people.... always do your homework.

Diva...WOW what a story, so sorry you had to go through all this with your new TT.

Glad CW made it right for you and now you can put this all behind you.

We have a TUNDRA and we love it, it tows our TT just fine. Just got back from the Smoky Mountains, first mountain towing and the Tundra had no problem. Don't listen to the Toyota bashers. Like any 1/2 Ton or 3/4 Ton or 1 Ton...stay within your weight limits and have proper set-up.

There are good people on this forum to help you...ignore the bully's!

Happy Camping

Great ending to a tuff start for you with the toyhauler. Its a story you will be telling for years to friends and fellow campers that you come across. Im glad all worked out for you.

LTCLarry IS ecstatic for Diva........and pleased that our "friends" at CW corrected their error.

Sooooo....it's your way or the highway? No need to get up in arms about it. I was just suggesting something to try that helped out with ours that was set up imporperly in the first place. I didn't say it was THE solution. Adjusting a link will help in the correct aligment of the truck and can assist on the back end. I don't think that the towing capacity of the truck is really the issue of the back and forth movement. I think the truck has enough to pull the trailer, but the capacity issue is a total different story.

No, WB (may I call you WB?) not my way or the highway. I reviewed the numbers and the numbers tell the story....the truck capacity IS/WAS the issue. It is what kicked off the entire saga and it doesn't matter what you or I THINK it matters what reality is .....the universal rules still apply...whether we want them too or not....had CW acted responsibly at the begining and declined to sell Diva the large trailer(when they apparently had an appropriately sized trailer in stock)and advised the correct trailer to begin with Diva would not have endured the stress. Unfortunately the fact remains.......the trailer was too large for the truck.

In fact - when we signed on the final papers for the second camper, the finance guy admitted over his entire career (7 years) he has sold MANY campers to people with the same type truck and he was amazed that the truck really couldn't handle the TT. And now we know what is going on at that CW...they either have sales folks who are un or ill-informed or dare I say, less than forthcoming about the capability of a persons TV.

Diva, much good luck with your new trailer and enjoy camping !

RVDavie and LTCLarry the same person?

You go in to buy a trailer and have your heart set on XXX trailer. CW is not supposed to sell it to you? Get real people. Whatever happened to personal responsibility in this country?

I don't think having your heart set on something means you should be lied to and told your tv can handle it. I know I was lied to in the beginning when I was looking. And no, my heart was not set on that particular tt. My sales person was trying to make the sale. Luckily, I Google rv forums, joined this forum and got some great advice.

There are many unscrupulous people out there just trying to make a buck. Don't fault her or any newbie for not knowing and trusting the sales person.

You should know what your tv can handle. The OP never said they were lied to. The trailer weight was under the tow rating of the Tundra and they bought it. It is a buyer beware purchase and a buyer should be informed before they go shopping. You want to buy a travel trailer and CW sells it to you. That's called a free market economy.
