Kicking around what to do for Memorial Day weekend besides staying home. Done with the desert, too hot. Can't get a beach site this late. Looked at maybe San Diego but WOW they're expensive sites. Don't really want to go too far. What's everyone doing for the long weekend?
Anyone have luck picking up cancellations at beach campgrounds? I've heard it can be done but there's a specific way to get it done, anyone want to share? Just wanted to get the DW and pooch away for some together time without the bike.

When I was down at San Elijo Easter break there was a lot of empty spots I don't know if the canceled or because of the threat of rain that weekend. You can always do Bolsa Chica for the day get in there early the gates open a 6am camp for the day the gates close at 9pm beach at 10pm with a yearly pass your trailer is only $15 no pass truck and trailer $30 bucks. Last year we drove down into the Los Angeles area (without our 5er) on the Friday of Memorial weekend and watching the traffic trying to get out was amazing. Everybody down there goes somewhere. May be a good weekend to stay home a work on a mod.

For the first time in about 10 years we may actually end up at home. My son is set to fly out to Denver for the Blue Knights on Friday and I'm not sure I want to get a late start to the riding weekend on Saturday. If the weather is good we may put the boat in to service and give the quads a weekend rest.

Try Lake Casitas in Ojai, KOA in Santa Paula or Ventura Beach RV Resort. Cool temps and not too far from Burbank.
We are headed to the lake for camping and boating. We have two new tubes to drag the kids on.

thought about Casitas or Cachuma. Casitas may already be full, haven't checked and Cachuma is firt come/first served so would have to get there early friday afternoon and that is on the list for sure, camped there MANY times and usually go wine tasting one day.
We can go boating if we want, friends/family will be at Nacimeinto all weekend but I hate all the crowds on the big weekends and its still a bit chilly up there.

We're taking one last trip out to Spangler for the year, even though it's going to be hot.

We did that one year, boys were pretty young and always bugging us, "why don't we go to the desert in the summer?" So we went out for Memorial once, they never asked again!
