Yesterday I was very surprised at what I read on a sticker on the tonque of my Jayco X23J. This sticker stated that towing this trailer with a tow vehicle rated at one ton or more could result in injury or death.

I have never heard of such a thing. Does anyone know the logic behind this statement?

Maybe it's a dog wagging the tail type of thing. Too much truck might cause damage because you won't feel the trailer...go to fast, take curves to fast, stop to late...etc.

Never heard of too much tow vehicle. Have seen some overkill though.

It appears to have been put on at the factory. I don't believe the dealer put it on. And yes it is new. We just took delivery a couple of weeks ago.

Thank God my Ram is only a half ton!

I think there is a lot if truth to what you stated.

I know of a case where a 5er was being test driven. On a turn the driver looked in the rear view mirror and noticed "air" under one set of tires on the trailer. He said he didn't feel anything in the HD truck that suggested the trailer was on the verge of flipping.

I think the bear II has a point here.

Not sure I buy the bear on this one.

If that were the case, why wouldn't it simply read "Operator should take care while towing to observe longer brake distances and slower maneuvering speeds", or something to that effect.

That's either referring to the "overhitching/overtrucking" myth perpetrated over at airforums (you know very well what I'm talking about 'Road), or it's another result of gratuitous litigation.

My 2010 Jayco 17Z has the same sticker on the tongue. I was thinking that maybe too much power could damage the tongue if you took off too fast? Maybe the frames are only rated for so much yank on them?

Never heard of anything like that. Did you check the owners manual for more info? There is usually an entire section on safe towing.
