Our 100 W solar panel works well keeping the batteries topped of during the day. A friend that has four 100 w panels can go a week without genny running. Just a tought.

I concur with this opinion. Also, the biggest effect on your genny run time is not the batteries, but how you use electricity.

If you are conservative and turn off lights not needed, etc verses leaving things turned on while not in use, will reduce you genny use more that anything else.

Sounds like a great trip to me!

Would NOT even consider going without good batteries, that is why we are researching now. Put us in the 'common sense' section!
DH analyzes almost everything.... Hence the question. He is sold on a set, just not the $400 a piece ones..

I'd rather spend less money on more battery capacity so you won't have to recharge as often. I was in the market for AGM batteries myself (four Universal 4D's @$370 each). I ended up going with 6V flooded batteries for $100 each less than those that had more capacity.
