Hi All,
First time blogger. I have 2 questions:
1. I remove the 12v battery 2 seasons agao from my trailer before I winterized it. Didnt use it last season. I want to reinstall a battery. I have 4 wires up at the trailer hitch end of the camper that attach to the battery, a red, a black, and 2 whites. Not sure what wires go to what terminal. Can anyone help? Electrical is not my strong suit.
2. Even when running of house power (without the battery installed), the motor for the "bumpout" doesnt work. Is it because the battery is not installed?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

slides almost always wire directly to the battery. What is pretty much the universal color for ground in an RV and MOST of the time any other color will be a positive connection.

Hi,
Do you have a multimeter? If so check to see which of the cables goes to the ground on the trailer. Those will be the negative cables.

Set the multimeter to measure DC voltage and put one lead on one cable and the other lead on the other cable with the trailer plugged in. If the multimeter shows a negative voltage, switch the cables.
But on my 2005 21SSO the red cable is positive.

Hi,
Set it to read ohms. The cables with zero resistance to the frame are the negative leads.
Then set it to read DC volts and check to see if the voltage confirms the above.

Standard wiring is White-Ground, Black or Red-Positive. Usually easy to trace the white wire to a connector bolted to the trailer frame. There's often a data plate on the trailer frame near the battery box location denoting colors too.
The slide switch marked In/Out? Mine isn't marked. Goes one way or the other depending on which way I depress it. If it's marked In/Out reverse the wires at the switch, not the battery. You do NOT want a White wire connected to the Positive battery terminal or Red or Black to the positive terminal unless you want more confusion later on.

To "get lost", on your 2005, is the red wire the only positive?
Damn I hate electricity!!
