Hello All,
i could not afford a new tow bar, but I did find one on Craigslist that is for sale for $250. Can you seasoned Dingy towers let me know what to look for? What to check for, etc...
Thank you all in advance for any insight you can share,
Rick

I dont know Blue Ox well but you want to ensure arms move freely in and out. If they dont then it is an indication of bad maintenance or damage from backing up etc.

Kinda like buying a used fire extingisher, maybe this is not the place to save a buck.

My Aventa LX (similar to a II) came with my preowned RV so essentially was a used tow bar as well. Make sure all arms and receiver portion is straight and is rust/corrosion free. The arms should telescope freely and lock into the extended position. The main pivot should move freely and have no excessive play nor looseness. Make sure you get the owners manual and read thoroughly for operation and maitenance. Highly recommend that you attend one of the larger rallys (or visit their facility in Pender NE if your ever near there) and have the Blue Ox representatives give it the once over in the near future. My LX is a great tow bar.

If it has the rubber boots over the arms remove the zip ties and inspect the arms for scoring. If it is aluminum look for out of round holes.

Hello All,
I picked up the used tow bar today, the man said it was only used 3 times at less than 500 Miles, I cut the tie wraps off the rubgvber boots are they are still lubricated and move freely, the arms, or actuators, I do not know what to call them, are springy and the bars lock in the full extended mode. I think I am good. ANY INPUTS?

Sounds like you got a good deal. Read the instructions for use and hookup to the toad will be simple. I.E. arms unlocked for hookup then make sure locked (handles popped up) before towing. I usually tap my toads aux brakes while slowly pulling forward to get arms to lock. If you didn' t get an owners manual, contact Blue Ox, they are good to work with. Have fun and enjoy your 4 down toad.

I believe the Aventa II will stow on the RV when you disconnect the toad like my LX. Make sure you lock it to the RV so it doesn't walk off.

I use the locking pins with matching keys to prevent walk off.

As you pull away after hooking up the toad make some shallow s turns to make sure both arms are all the way out and locked.
