Can only find the XPS Rib in the 235/85R16 size, which is an inch larger diameter, which leads me to believe they will rub, particularly when they flex any when you hit a hole at, say, a bridge approach. My OEM tire is TowMax 235/80/r16. THX in advance.

The 235-85-16 XPS Rib is about 1 inch larger in diameter that the 235-80-16 tire. That is only 1/2 inch on each side. So the tire will only extend into the wheel well an additional 1/2 inch, the other 1/2 inch is below the axle effectively lifting the trailer 1/2 inch. The only thing you need to worry about is the clearance between the tires. The 1/2 inch extra on each tire will decrease the clearance between tires by 1 inch. You need a minimum of 1 inch clearance when all is said and done. Let's say you currently have 3 inches between tires, you would end up at 2 inches and be just fine.

The other option with the XPS Rib tire is to go to the 245-75-16 and it would match the diameter if the 235-80-16 tires you want to replace.

Good luck with your new tires. XPS Ribs are expensive but worth the money. That is what I had on the 5th wheel that preceded our signature MH.

Good choice in tire. I wanted those. The ribs are a total steel carcass, bullet proof.
But... I went with the commercial TA 235/85 16.They seem stout enough for my purpose. Also had the 235/80 16e to start.

The new 235/85 16E tires fit perfect on my WW triple axle. Plenty of clearance. Got to be 8-10" at least between tires. They tow like a dream. And I like the slightly higher profile. Plenty of room up top for the extra 1/2" on the WW.
I'd be really surprised if 235/85 16e did not fit great on any rig that came with 235/80 16e...

235 Ribs will fit just fine.
You are comparing ST tire size to LT tire size, apples to oranges.
Get the 235, you will love them.

The 235x85-16R will not fit my triple axle. Lack of clearance between tires on axle 2 & 3; presently less than 1 inch. I absolutely know this because I have one for my spare. No way will two work.
When I upgrade to LT's it will be the 245x75-16R's which are almost a match for my 235x80-16R ST's.

I had 235/80R16 factory China bombs on my triple axle KZ Inferno and changed out to the 235/85R16 XPS Ribs in March. I have three trips to Glamis on them since and have had no clearance issues between axles.

Looks like some trailers will fit them and some won't. You could take a careful measurement of your axle spacing and work out your clearance using this site:

http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html

Paste it into your browser & you can plug in different tire sizes to get diameter.

You need 1" clearance between tires -this is directly from Dexter Axle Documentation. Also need about 3" of bump clearance, top /top sides, for full axle articulation at full load.

The LT245/75R16 LR E are nearly the same diameter dimension as ST235/80R16 but have a wider section width. Only issue going this way is wheel width should be 6.5 inches for the Lt245/75R16 tire.

Might consider the Bridgestone Duravis R250 or M895 instead of XPS rib. These are usually $50 or more cheaper per tire than the XPS but still a steel sidewall/steel tread tire.

Lincster, are you saying ST and LT tires sizes are different even if they have the same exact numbers??

There are differences in height/width depending on the mfr. The same size tire may be slightly different.
If you go to each Mfr. website, you can get the numbers and compare.
I had to be careful of the width on my rig, so I went with a narrower tire.
